Havent seen a whole lot on the subject... and its a pretty big subject tbh.
I was wondering if anyone had any inside information on SOE's advertising strategy... I.E video adds on game sites, banner adds, big magazine companys and perhaps the ultimate, a TV add. I remember hearing Higby say he "likes" steam. It would be a huge advertising outlet if it were possible legally (try to get this to happen Higby!!). I have too many friends that had never heard of planetside.. ikr? The only way Planetside 2 will work as intended is to have the servers packed and the best way to do that is to advertise. LETS SEE SOME PLANETSIDE ON TV |

They did interviews with all the major gaming news outlets and banner ads on gaming sites. I'm not worried about that. They've also been really active on these forums, on Reddit, on Facebook, and on Twitter. Can't get much more social advertisement than that really. I'd say really the only way to drastically step up advertising now is to do something big like TV advertisements a la CoD/BF3, Youtube partnerships with more than just TB (like FreddyW, who did a few shorts for BF3), and advertise the HELL out of "Free to Play" on the Playstation 3.

I don't know if TV would be the best route for this game to be honest. I can't say I see many PC exclusives even doing TV adds besides WoW. Like you said getting this on steam is a must imo and just advertising on the big gaming websites like IGN and Gamestop will help. TV is good for consoles due to so many people having consoles you can get to your base quite easily. However the amount of people playing PC plus having the proper PC to play this game is a far lower number. The amount of money you are spending doesn't equate to being nearly as effective verse a console game being on TV.

Look around dude, its everywhere. Ive seen some PS2 on Google adverts. And there is E3, ChinaJoy, Gamescon, PCgamer, TotalBiscuits coverage and a bunch of gaming sites covering it. Plus FB and Twitter and the cinematic trailer coming out later today. And what did I miss... I think they've pretty much got it covered.

Only if you're part of the gamer-nerd community. We need to send a shout out to the general public.
I'd like to see commercials in the theater the next time I go see some action movie. Last edited by Rivenshield; 2012-07-25 at 05:09 PM. |

Putting the game on Steam before release (or at least open beta) is iffy, and AFAIK, impossible under the regulations (the game needs to have a publicly playable part to appear on Steam). However, when the game releases, it's definitely a good option, as Steam has an immense flow of traffic, and few gamers will refuse to give a f2p game with unique features a spin.
