I have thought about this for a while but after seeing the trailer, Im pretty sure that the Planetside Universe is gonna become bigger than just Planetside 2.
The Devs have already mentioned that they want Planetside 2 to become more like Eve/Star Wars galaxies....What I understood by this, is that they want players to have more freedom. So they are already thinking big for the Planetside Universe. If Planetside 2 becomes a hit....I think they will build up more on the lore of Planetside by creating other Planetside video games,books,etc...similar to what happened to the Halo Universe. I mean the Planetside Universe has huge potential with the factions and potential lore they could come up with..... As Planetside 1 has proven....People get tied up with factions so if they come up with some good lore for books/Games....The fans will pick them right up. Maybe even one day, a Planetside Movie......if it looked as good as the trailer, it would be amazing. I hope I am right.....but no matter what they are going to revolutionize gaming by making developers more incline to do MMOFPS which I feel is the future of gaming. I really hope that planetside universe would expand and maybe the next game can be spaceside(or something like that)where you get those massive scale battles in space, with thousands of ships, big capital ships, space stations, frigates all of which you should be able to board(imagine a capital ship with a hanger as big or even bigger than the hanger of the CIS capital ships from star wars battlefront 2.Now imagine a galaxy drop in that hanger and a hundred players fighting all over the ship on different decks and levels of it.Now imagine that's just one out of 3-4 ships each faction should have).
It can have different maps like asteroid fields, giant clouds of star dust,a planet with a rediculosly high amout of really small mouns around it and so on. And if they make a planetside TV series with animation and dinamic combat like the one from the trailer, ohhh boy.... |

THIS!!!!! This has literally been my dream game for 7 years, ever since I first played space battles in battlefront 2. I always though this would be awesome if the ship interior was bigger and there were thousands of live players to populate it. Up until I heard of planetside I didn't think it was possible to have more then 200 players in a server so I thought it would be years before a game like that came out. Now it seems like its entirely possible, tech wise, just need a studio willing to undertake the huge project. Hopefully one that listens to its community at least as well as SOE does. |

What he described in that he wrote is my dream game, Like you fighting inside a big ship and outside you can see fighters fly by the windows in a crazy space war, When at the same time the cannons on the ship blast of huge laser beams towers an other ship faaaaaaar in the distance. You run down to the hangar deck to see fighters being lunched outside the huge hangar window (star ship trooper style). Alarms go off the ship is going down, every one race to the Drop pods - life boats - galaxy ships. And this would be just awesome if they could do: 1. Bind TOGETHER the ps2 map and the new game - so you can go DOWN to the earth from space ! (it would be doable with our technology now). Like then you have to guard the galaxy's dropping from space, or when the ship is going down, the pods become like the "Drop in Max pod". 2. If or when the ship gets hit ( the big ship ) - make it roll so you really feel the hit in the side, Maybe not as much as walls becomes floor, But at least so it get you off aim. |

I can absolutely see Planetside becoming as Popular as Halo at it's peak. Halo didn't really take off until Halo 2, sure it had a big following but not bigger than the original Planetside I'd bet. It's really all about advertising.
We need some Planetside 2 Mt Dew Gamer Fuel promotions, get those faction logos onto some Slurpee cups etc. SOE has a history of not promoting their games well enough, I really hope they've learned enough by now to get the brand out there in the real world instead of just attempting viral internet marketing. (Which is cheaper but isn't enough) It will never be Star wars big though lol. |

That said, I have pretty bight hopes for planetside as an Ip, but fairly more realistic expectations than OP. 26 year olds with gaming PCs do not set pop culture trends as well as 14 year olds with xboxs, like I was when playing halo. |

That game was very hyped years before it even got released! Then everyone got sad when Microsoft bought Bungie and said that the game would be exclusive on their new console called Xbox. Microsoft were smart with that one, without a flagship game like Halo the Xbox would never sell. They even got away with making people pay a subscription fee for multiplayer!!
Halo was a really big game, the fact that it survived both being ported and made exclusive on a new console everyone thought would flop (The maker of windows making their own console? Yeah right that will go well ) and on top of that having a subscription fee on its multiplayer says everything. |

I doubt that with every ounce of my being. Personally, I don't think that game is going to be half as great as everyone else seems to think. I think the game will do well enough to be called a "success", but all these people expecting the second coming of Christ are going to be let down.
