Modem speed

What can boost my 56k modem up allittle speed? (and i dont wana new modem). I run AOL too.

And if a new modem, like DSL since that the only thin i can get, how much would it cost and whats the most minimum monthly charges?

You will not get your 56k modem to perform much better by tweaking. It's not worth the effort, especially on AOL. If you want to know about pricing for DSL/Cable you'd have to talk to ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in your area and see what they charge because they're not all the same. You should try to get DSL/Cable if you plan on playing planetside though. I have a feeling your AOL just won't cut it.

yup, he's right. With a 56k modem there's nothing you can really do.. In fact you can never even reach 56k. The speed at which you conenct is determined by the quality of phone line, how much traffic is on the phone line and by the equipment where you dial to.

and AOL for gaming? OMG

I didn't think you could game with all that extra crap running....

Yea I know.....i didn't really want AOL anyways but my mom did and she's the one paying......

So I will get DSL since we dont get cable up on this road....and I hope we get it soon......

and it better cost less than 39 buckeroos

If you're lucky, you can get a decent ADSL connection for 20 bux a month...if you're lucky.

unico, thats just for dsl, tho, right? you STILL gotta pay isp fees with dsl. with cable, its all included.

Edit: Cable usually runs around $40-$50 US per month.

As I said I cant get cable whatsoever untill the friggin cable company decides to cable down this road......and this road is a pretty big one too, I'm surprized it doesn't get cable for it links the mountain to downtown.....hmmm

And I do know that I would have to pay for all the equiptment, but thats a charge I, yes I am willing to pay for.

BurningSpear - Well, some cities actually charge a simple rate of 20$ a month for ADSL.. and that's THE monthly price. In my area, however, you're looking at 21.95$ with QWEST (fricken bastards) and another 21.95$ with a local ISP... so it's getting competitive.

there is a way to double your 56k speed! but its ilegal

and you can get cought... get DSL, i have it and it works great, only 40 dola a month

Sorry but there really isn't any way to double your 56k speed. The closest thing you could do would be run 2 modems but that would only help download speed, not ping. You'd also need two phone lines, and for some ISPs you'd need two accounts. There is no "illegal" way to double your speed though.
