Funny, actually, a petition to secure funding to create the Death Star got 35k signatures and a humorous government response.

So two days ago...

It's still in the initial development stages, though. They have to prove that it is possible before they can really grab full funding. If this is a possibility, I hope I am around when they finish it. I would love to be on that initial jump to a new solar system.

I'll most likely still be around in 50 years. One can hope. It's also not so much that human's are lazy. Simply put, theories come before fact. We moved so fast in the 20th century that we couldn't keep up with our own thinking.

On a different note, yes, the typical human is quite lazy.

it's just good to know that they managed to get over the stumbling block of requiring a ship the size of the moon in order to power it.
Although I don't think I'd go on the first initial jump even if I was invited, end up as a greasy smear across alpha centauri because one team was working in light miles and the other in solar kilometres, no thanks

We'll see. NASA might also just be trying to hype the theory in order to secure their not so secure future.
Would be great if it turns out that it's actually possible and practical enough to use, but I shall remain rather sceptical.

Also what could possible go wrong with sending simians into space by warping space...

Either way, NASA deserves a lot more money than it's getting right now. They're pretty much the only ones trying to get us off this rock, and discovering a shit ton of neat stuff along the way.
