Separate "Armor" and "Suit Modifications"


In direct contrast to my usual posts, I'm keeping this short:

How do you feel about splitting "armor" as in Nanoweave, Shield Capacitor, Flak, and "Suit Modifications" like the Munitions Pouch, Utility Pouch, Ammunition Belt, and Grenade Bandolier?

This is really just an opinion poll. I see the arguments for both splitting them and for keeping them in the same cert category. My personal opinion is that it should be two different cert categories, at least in some cases.

People would still have to make sacrifices - do they want to have more resistance to explosions, or more health? Do they want to carry extra magazines for their weapons, an extra rocket, or an additional grenade?

More types of both can be added - maybe a special armor bonus with resistance to headshots that you can equip in your "armor" spot instead of the Nanoweave or Flak. You might not die to one headshot anymore, but a grenade toasts you and you have less HP for small arms encounters.

Additionally, maybe carrying more ammo slows you down a bit. I am confident they could make it work without messing up infantry play.

What are your thoughts?

This is a wonderful idea. I dont know hoe soe could monetize this so it may never happen.

Yeah I'd really like to have the ability to further customize my loadouts. As it stands now I knew what I wanted from beta and haven't even put certs into the other ones.

standard light armour


harder, but heavier medium armour

If the Grenade Bandolier option didn't exist i'd be all for splitting up armor and suit slots. But I have a feeling a huge chunk of the population would choose the extra grenades option it if it didn't take away their armor upgrade. I don't want a 200%-300% increase in grenade spam.

This worries me as well, however, on the flip side, if there's an uptick in grenade spam, that can now be countered by Flak armor - which is no longer a choice over grenades, but is now alongside. So you could for example equip your grenade bandolier, but also have Flak armor to counter all of the grenade spam.

I think a few more armor types being thrown into the mix is a necessary element of making this work. More sidegrades! Everybody loves sidegrades!

This is a great idea all it means is more customization. since it effects all empires the same it couldn't really hurt gameplay or balance. I am for this.

More options is indeed nice, and its balanced in the sense that everyone has access to said options.

But grenade spam could be an issue. Maybe leave the bandolier with the other armour options to prevent this?

It never made sense to me why they weren't already separate. As for the Bandolier, I don't think that will matter too much.

As people said, bandolier is countered by Flak Armour. As a LA using Bandolier, THIS is a great idea, and needs to be put in game. Even with this the shield upgrade will be useful.
