Most likely yes. They seem to want you to buy the Fractures. Which are pretty much an upgrade in every possible way. Pounders are apparently just the poor mans AV MAX weapon now. The only way they could even make them competitive would be to increase their damage to Infantry so it becomes a hybrid AI/AV weapon. Otherwise they need a massive damage boost against vehicles.

i dont mind buying new weapons, but i never imagined they would do this to iconic weapons from planetside 1.

Before fractures, thats how I used the pounder. A long range grenade launcher, if enemys were 100+meters away that I couldnt hit with the chainguns id lob nades at them.

I honestly doubt they will waste time on the pounders, they will just say 'buy the fractures'

Well, today I used it with the last level of anchored mode and I killed two vanguards in a row, firing from inside the respawn room to those campers tanks.
Using rockets we could not do it because they were repearing then faster then we could damage.
Also you get much more range on anchored mode, you can hit tanks at 20m, your no longer needs to be on melee range to hit something!
Of all the weapons I used today on anchored mode, the pounder is the one who got most bonuses from it.

i tried anchor mode in the field and it doesnt work well. tanks spot u and hit u. u disengage anchor mode to run, it takes 3 seconds, tank takes second shot and kill u.


pounder holds a special place in my heart from ps1. no amount of nerfing will make me buy the fracture.

But today on howling pass checkpoint I and several maxes used the anchored mode on open ground to terminate a NC tank Zerg.
It is like the engineer av turret, you can kill enemies fast from far always using fractures, firing form a half cover, just the top of your max is exposed to enemy tank fire that can't hit with precision from long range, of course several maxes died, but they could be resurrected, those vanguards, couldn't!
With pounders I was on a forward cover, hitting the enemy on the sides, outside their line of vision, they passed in front of me and died fast to my pounders, too bad they notice me after the third one was down.
While capturing zurvan 2 hours later, we made a double line of deployed maxes, 2 on each side of the entry point of those stairs to the capture point, lots and lots of Zoe maxes died to us on Defensive positions, with support of course, the most used tactic from the VS that it is using several maxes to turn the capture point back on the last minute failed because of that. while that I was tired of mining the south roads and almost without tank mines, so I got my max with dual pounders, I deployed on the tower, looking to the road, and killed some tanks with it, of course I let then get close without notice me, almost died it a cloacked flash that got me from behind. I just recall I even got a screenshot for the max defensive lines! I will post here later.
My only great deception it is that what work great with an useless weapon, the pounder, doesn't works great with the useful weapons, like the buster or the fracture, couldn't shot down any aircraft today using max, they always escaped fast using afterburner, maybe we can do it in pair, but we already could do that without deploy.
I forgot to tell how I died on that tower using dual pounders, while the flash made my health low, a last vanguard came, I jump down the tower to get him from behind, avoiding falling damage, got behind him, pressed the anchor mode, started firing, it didn't fire fast enought, so he turned his enforcer and one hit kill me, just discovery that you must be standing still for at least one second to anchor, and several times today I pressed the button to anchor, didn't anchor, and the game didn't give me any error message, so I believed that I was anchored but I wasn't.

im ok with the nerf/buff bullsh1t to the battlfield clone guns, but when they nerfed the pounder it touched a nerve.

i dont know whats with SOE nerfing all the original ps1 inspired weapons.

I just confirmed that the bonuses on the useless are better then on the useful ones, but even without anchored mode the useful one are better, period.
I could get enemy tanks with the pounders on melee range even after the great nerf, if they were unaware of me, with anchored mode the ambush position just got a little more range and the much faster fire rate you can even kill a deployed sunderer before the enemy can retaliate if they didn't see you deploying, work great at Amerish.
But the fracture is still better on 95% of the times. Today I saw deployed maxes with fractures shooting down much more tanks, sunderes, ESF, liberator, infantry, everything! While I just got 5 vanguard with the pounders, on optimal situations I could have killed then with the pounders even without using anchored mode.
Every faction got its own max ability, I really think anchored mode is the worst and got nerfed bad from the test server, but all ability were "balanced", it is still too early to complain about it, today I saw Zoe maxes wiping down full squads, and I also saw nc maxes using shield to allow several nc infantry to pass the defensive line we made, so they could flank the tr maxes, everyone is developing strategies for those new max abilities and soon we will receive a patch nerfing the most successful ones.
