Track Friendly capability

Problem:
It's easy to lose track of a buddy. For example, a spontaneous wingmate you're flying with that's not in your squad.

Solution - Add "Track Friendly" to Quick Action menu

* Direction indicator shows where Tracked Friendly is when off screen.

* Behind walls, the Tracked friendly displays as a silhouette.
The dev team for Left 4 Dead learned this works very well to locate buddies

The But's:
  • "But you can just look at the minimap."
    • After a certain distance friendlies update sporadically on the minimap, and then disappear altogether.
    • In large groups, all those tanks/planes/automobiles look alike, which is your newfound buddy?
    • After a heated battle with an opponent, you've lost all track of your buddy
  • "But you can just add the guy to your squad."
    • You can't if the guy's already in a squad, and you both just happen to be fighting back-to-back for 20 minutes.
    • At times its hard to even keep track of individual squad members.

Sounds like an awesome idea for a new implant.

As above poster, would rather have this as "Track Player" misc implant that would be able to track a certain number of enemies and friendlies. It could be an implant that every player has by default, which would make sense if there is a limited number of implant slots.

It's a really good idea, though.

Yes, Yes, Yes!

Need this with squads too. So hard to defend a lib as an ESF, the moment you engage an enemy ESF the lib you are guarding disapears - often not even findable on the main map. Also expanding the minimap is a real killer in an ESF as it obstructs way too much of your view - making things even tougher if you are trying to keep track of friendly air.

How is this different from the colored doritos over friendly players' heads?

At the moment the doritos you're trying to escort or get aid from just gets lost. This is especially detrimental to aircav fighter wings.

Sounds like an awesome idea for a new implant.
Hah! Why add functionality for free when it could be more stuff to cert into!

Need this with squads too.
I wonder if clicking on the little squad names in the bottom-left should allow you to quickly change tracking friendlies among squad mates?

definitely YES!

so whenever a squadmate calls for help or calls out a special target at his position, a quick click on his name in the squadlist would give you his position, easy to find.

damn it, why did nobody come up with this ideas when higgles asked about quality of life ideas? that would have been a QoL addition with real value.

We need the aircraft tracking one for Squadmates at least. Hell aloow ESFs with scout radars to mark and track enemies for friendlies in the area to a certain distance.

yeah. this system could also be reused in the upcoming mission system!

squadleader sets mission "defend galaxy" and the gal gets marked as "friendly target" that works similar to the waypoint markers. would help with eskort missions and would enable esfs and libs to efficiently do point defence airsupport for moving groundunits without having to hover above them all the time. they would always know where to direct straferuns at.

also you should be able to lock an enemy target in the same manner.

maybe make it an implant, and also give an anti implant, so you would have to choose if you want to lock targets, or if you want to block being locked by others.
