Lightbulb Filming tipps

Hi guys,

Let's share some tipps and tricks for filming in PS2, shall we? This can be anything from "how to create smooth pans" to "things that went horribly wrong and how to avoid them". Tipps for editing and post-production are nice, too, but I mainly want this thread to be focused on filming the actual raw footage.

Here are some tipps to get this thread started - some quite obvious, but you gotta start somewhere

- Turn off your HUD and first person weapon models, if you want to "just film" and not be part of the action. You can bind keys to those two things in the settings menu.

- If you want to record first person fighting scenes without the HUD, use a tiny piece of duct tape on your screen as crosshair replacement.

- If you want to film in bigger battles, be an infiltrator. With your first person weapon model turned off, you can't shoot back, anyway, so use your cloaking to stay alive longer in larger battles. You can still use your sniper rifle's zoom though, which will help you get "closer" to the action (remember to use your shift key to stabilize your aim).

- If you want to create aerial footage of landscapes, create a TR character and get into a Mosquito. Roll your place to one side and use free look (bindable in the settings menu) to look out of the side window. The window of the Mosquito is a bit larger than that of the other ESFs so you won't have to crop/zoom as much in post-production which will result in better quality (or more correctly less quality loss)

- With some luck you can get some nice aerial shots of fights around "tower bases" (think Crossroads, Crown, Crimson bluff, etc.) by using a Light Assault with Drifter Jets and a weapon with low/medium zoom. You can jump off one of the landing pads (or use a drop pod to get on top of the tower and start from there) and then drift over the action. I haven't had THAT much luck with it so far, mostly because I either was shot down before I could focus on the really interesting stuff, or my camera movement was too jerky. but in general I think this method is quite promising.
