Advance apologies for starting another Sniper topic
I was on Indar this evening. There was a large-ish fight going on between the TR, who were occupying Vanu Archives and the NC. I decided to go sniping again. First of all, I was more interested in staying alive and I am so crap at CQ stuff, so I spawned at NS Research Labs. It was clear of enemies, which suited me. I'm for ever getting stabbed from behind LOL. I set up at that ammo supply tower just to the north of the facility and straight away I could see there was a few peeps at the launch pad thing to the south of Vanu Archives, the one that is high up on a rock. I checked the distance with my personal waypoint and it was around 280 metres. I managed to kill a couple of guys before they decided to clear off. A little later I spotted an engineer on the southern most platform to the west of Vanu Archives. He was using an AV turret and so I had plenty of time to take aim. I suppose I should mention I was using my Longshot with a 12x scope. My first two shots were to the body and I was quite surprised that he kept coming back to his turret. Another two shots went high, and he carried on regardless. Then finally, with around two full dots in the scope just above his head, I got the headshot in. The distance, according to my personal waypoint, was just under 440 metres, so lets call it 430 metres, just for the sake of nice round numbers. I doubt if I'll get that chance again, so thanks to the engy for obliging me the chance... As good as being in VR. Is that good? Average? Easy peasy? I'd love to know... Some times I struggle to hit barn door at 150 paces. 300 metres is usually too much of a challenge for me. So to bust 400 metres was a bit of a shock and I grinned for some time after |

I've dropped few guys just on the rendering distance on ultra graphics (before the latest big 'graphics' patch, i had to drop everything to low after that).. the targets were literally either visible or invisible, depending where they were facing. I actually had to use the mildots to get aim, so it must have been over whopping 300 meters (sorry sarcasm, i'm just still stirred about the '150m' cap we almost got... ffs, i've done 1 inch groups with iron sights with 60's AK variant from 300m range.. just to give perspective)...
Anyways, i know the feeling, getting the perfect shot from max given range and all the hardcoded negatives there is. Keep it up, nice work =) Last edited by Plaqueis; 2013-12-14 at 03:41 PM. |

The Parallax is quite an impressive weapon. One night I was on an impressive kill streak from at least 275m. I kept losing sight of my target due to them going out of render range, a few of them I even took while invisible. If they go ahead and add in the range finder option to scopes I'll be able to more accurately measure the distance.

All of my best PS2 moments have been in a Vanguard... I drive the Harasser too, but it doesn't require the level of stoicism being dedicated MBT does. |

I was on a hill. There was someone standing around at an air tower. I had to move the WHOLE scope above out of sight and fire blind to kill him. Took about 3 shots or so. Needless to say, it was a long fucking way away.

I do a lot of sniping at the render distance during big battles. Turrets and HA's are the easiest to spot (and OHK), and by turning the camera left and right you can pop otherwise non-existant enemies back into your sniping lane.
During the first O:MFG testing I was getting some OHK's on moving targets at 350m (in their defense they were trying to scale down a rockface on Indar). I checked with a waypoint after the kills since I was curious where the sniping nerf would come into effect. Last edited by Edfishy; 2013-12-14 at 06:33 PM. Reason: added "(and OHK)" |

Roughly 450m, Drop-pod ontop of that giant rock thing west of Allatum, sniping Engineers on the Bio-Labs landing platform.
As far as furthest in-general kill though... Anchor-Mode Prowler with AP mounted on the ridge line North-West of Allatum's western satellite (I forget the name), Killing a NC armor column coming out of Indar Excavation site to attack Quartz Ridge Camp, 835m shots! They just sat there not even trying to dodge as they waited for infantry to nock-out the gate. It's always funny watching tanks turrets spin thinking it's a high-altitude Liberator attacking them when it's really just a Prowler... Last edited by HereticusXZ; 2013-12-14 at 09:22 PM. |

I know I shouldn't encourage the enemy but kudos where it's due. |
