Sniper tracers


Does anyone know if the sniper rifle is going to leave a line that reveals a snipers position? I mean everyone misses once in a while and those white lines in Halo are a dead giveaway of position.

Id say I would like to see a Tracer. It forces a sniper to change location often, or risk being killed

Sniping has got to be the best part of any game, but I just don't like people who snipe to snipe. I like it when people have natural ability and good hands on the mouse. A lot of n00bs snipe because they are cowards and they would rather hit someone where they can't shoot back. That isn't why I snipe, I snipe because I have been good at it in every other game I have ever played. I don't think there should be a tracer, but there should be some indication of a snipers location such as a flash or sound or something, just so a sniper doesn't sit in one spot all day long picking people off.

bah! Snipers vs. heavy armor in close combat = sniper screwed...


Realistically snipers wouldnt use anything that leaves a tracer... DUH.. while it is a game, it isnt realistic that a SNIPER would give their position away... hell... exposing one's position while SNIPING is AGAINST the definition of a sniper:

1 : to shoot at exposed individuals (as of an enemy's forces) from a usually concealed point of vantage

I was angry when i learned snipers couldnt use the cloakign armor, but it's liveable, unless the bolt driver is silent, that noise already will give our position away....


Snipers need the ability to hide(or at least not let their bullets be seen), in order to survive, if a single sniper tries to take out a few people in a squad, he is SCREWED if theres a glowing tracer white line from the sniper to the commander...


anyway... I'm not against snipers being seen.. but they wouldnt be throwing around flares showign their position.. not being able to use the cloaking armor should be enough... Snipers are supposted to be a very real threat

My God man.. Ok.. DiosT, stop right now. No. That is GOOD they didn't give snipers cloaking armor because they're powerful enough as it is. If there's a line tracing back? Oh well. Take out a few people in a squad? WTH? We're not a power class here, we aren't supposed to own all or something... Remember, other people are playing this game.. go play a FPS on Single Player and go sniping if you wanna be all powerful.. Otherwise, drop this subject because it'll just turn into Headshots all over again.

A good sniper should be able to take out 1-2 infantry in a squad, minimum, hell, thats how it happened in the real world... Snipers would take out the enemy commanders then hide, they created chaos by taking out the enemies leaders.

Snipers are feared because snipers can take out enemy without being seen.... If they can be easily seen...
1) They arnt snipers
2) There'd be no point, you get 1 shot, probably dont kill the guy, and then you're screwed ebcause all 10 guys are running your way... the confusion is what the sniper relies on

No a sniper cant take out a ship, or a tank, but squad members on the ground, exposed, could easiyl be taken by a sniper, even if it takes 2-3 shots froma bolt driver....

and they'd likely be able to get a few more shots off before the squad can locate and terminate the sniper....

Snipers in WW2 and vietnam were feared to hell becasue they were very hard to stop(usually counter-sniped), and could take out the enemy commanders... hell commanders hid their rank shown on their uniform so they wouldnt become targets....


This is a realistic FPS, not a quake 3 FPS... No snipers are not al-powerful, but well played, a sniper should be able to terrorize the (*&^ out of people.. and they shouldnt see easily where it came from... and theres no reason why there'd be a tracer line... tracers you see in the movies or on the news.. are actually from machine guns usually, every 10th bullet being a tracer on a belt, so they could easily make sure they are on target.. a sniper would NEVER do this in the field...

Maybe you have never played Halo, but since the maps are so big in Halo and the sniper rifles have very long ranges so they instituted a white beam that followed the bullet to handicap him. The sniper doesn't intentionaly do this, the gun makes the line.

well.. i mean.. in the real world.. the sniper wouldnt let that kidna handicap exist.... They'd use a gun w/o that 'tracer'....


and i'd rather see damage reduction at high distances more then tracers at all distances....

How good is the battle animations? would people see someone getting shot from a side?

Think about what you are saying, this is a game not real life. Plus there has to be some indication of a snipers position, a sound would be my preference, but whetever they decide I will have to live with. Without an indication snipers could shoot all day and never have to move.

there is always muzzle flash.... that's usually what people see.. that or the reflection of light off the snipers scope heh....


and I have no problem with them putting something in to hint at snipers positions, I just dont want it to be a nice big tracer pointing from the sniper to the guy he just shot... would only let the sniper get off 1 shot before he is spotted, and after that he's screwed... and from the movies i've seen i havnt seen much for the sniper to hide behind, so i doubt a sniper will be able to find a place he can hide for long periods of time in....

I'm not opinionated, I agree a sniper shouldnt have NO signs of presense... but I do not think they should be dressed in blazing orange and dancing the flamengo when he fires a shot.... (being sarcastic.. i think 'tracers' are too much of a give away for position, i think sound & muzzle flash should be the key, muzzle flashes can easily be seen from any distance a rifle typically shots(unless you look at the superb 1 1/2-mile distance snipers--but doubt PS will have that range).. so i think with 10 people, 1 at least will spot the muzzle flash by the 2nd-3rd shot, and after the 1st they'd be moving to avoid such sniper attacks, and hide in APC's or behind vehicles, and if the side they are on isnt safe, move to the other side until they find em, heh =p

Similart to Halo


I don't know if anyone here has played Halo on the X-Box, but when a sniper shot is fired it creates a white particle stream type thing and you can identify where the shot came from. Then you can actually have a chance at defending yourself/killing the sniper. Maybe they should use some system similar to that.

that was already mentioned z4....

and i said It would really suck ;-P PS will proabably more squad organized, so a single person fallin wouldnt really be that huge of a deal, and the other 9 people will already rape a sniper(and revive the fallem teamate), when its 1v1 and the person needs to find the sniper, then thats important to have...

but.. snipers are typically solo.. they NEED the ability to hide in order to survive(or at least not stand out for all 9 people to clearly see)...

As i said, muzzle flashes are the key to finding snipers, in reality(or in most game), you cant follow the path of a bullet going at that speed, even with a tracer.. I think the reload time, lack of 'invisability' armor, muzzle flah, and sound will already give the sniper enough disadvantage, out of 10 people, by the 2nd shot 1 of them would have likely seen the muzzle flash
