Questions:Planetside&Satellite connectionion

DSL and Cable is not an option in my area. I haven't played any other games with satellite due to me not haveing one....yet. I hope satellite connection can work with PS because I have the money and the desire to play PS if it is possable with a Satellite. SO MY QUESTIONS TO BETA TESTERS OR ANYONE WITH ANY KNOWLEDGE ABOUT SATELLITE CONECTIONS AND ONLINE GAMING. Anyone playing beta or ever played FPS online with a satellite connection? If so, do you experince much lag? Not much lag, then what is your maxinmum d/l stream and up load stream? Is a 50k uploaded stream suffiecient for the game with voice chat and all? If you can answer any of these questions please reply. You could save me alot of money and frustration.

Input would be great thanks!

Satellite connections aren't very good for online games. They tend to have high latency which causes everything to be delayed.

It really depends on that. If you can ping <150ms to the servers then you should be ok...anything over that and it might get a bit frustrating. 300+ and you shouldn't even try to play .

I plan on getting one with 500k d/l stream and 50k up/l stream. Any guesses on much latency that would get?

Bandwidth and Latency are not related. You could have enough bandwidth to service a college, but if the latency is bad, it won't work for online games. Gotta ask the provider what type of latency you should expect before getting it.

I use a sat for my internet connection and i rarely lag i have 512 bandwith but also with sat late at night i can get up to T1 speeds because of how the company i get my connection through works the only bad thing that i see about sat is the fastest ping you can possibly get EVER even if its to your friend next door is about 60 ping because it has to contact the "mother sat" and then send the signal that way. other then that it isnt that bad

btw no i do not know any gramer so dont flame me im typeing this asfap because were not supposed to be on forums in school

What is the fastest ping you get from a satellite . I have two options as far as satellite offering companies. One is 70 a month and the other is 60 the 70 has higher upload band with but does that really matter? Hopefully the 60 dollar a month provider tells me there latency is good becaue there satellite is around 200 dollars cheaper. Can you tell me which company you get your sevice from if it is not bad?

You cannot play over sat connections. Sending data back and forth over statelite takes about a second.

a modem connection will serve you better unless you are into downloading.

Xalon you are very much so wrong my friend i have a 512 k satatlite connection and the game runs fine for me except for my shitty video card (ati 7200) so dont say you "cant" play on statlite connections. I have played DAOC in some of the biggest RVR battles with very little lag along with many fps such as tribes 2, unreal tourney unreal tourney 2k3, diablo, war craft 3, NWN the list goes on and on so dont say you cant yes DSL CAN be better but not in all situations when it comes to an online gameing expirence.
