A friend of mine back home in wisconsin has 7 of them. The smallest one measures 18". The largets measures a good 24".

He bought a house that had a koi pond already in back. The previous owner could not bring the fish along with him, so he included it in the sale of the house.

During the winter he brings the fish in and puts them downstairs in a large cow troth (sp?).

I just got a pond instlaled in my backyard. My fmaily is going to get koi fish put in there, but first you need to put other fish in for qutie a long time, i think a few months, before you put the koi in. I'm not sure why, my mom told me once, but i forgot.

I did the same thing - the house I bought just now has a koi pond. So I researched them, and then added a couple to what was already there. They are the most amazing things.

I don't know why you'd have to have other fish live there first, but I know you have to have the water an all that jazz perfect. I did just pick up a 10 inch sucker fish to help control the algae (he does a great job). Those big koi of your friends are worth serious "bling".

I'm thinking about getting another large one like this -

Well, we dont have much algae yet becasue the pond just got insalled within the last few days. So maybe you need to have smaller fish to let the algae grow at a steady rate, until you can have neough to sustain your koi, besides the regular fish food you feed them.

They're smart, they recongnize people. They have leaders who organize them - Like I heard a story about these guys who had koi that they brought inside every thanksgiving. SO the first year they bag them all up and load them in the new tank, well the next year, one fish directed all of the other koi into the bags for the trip. One time, a year before and the fish remebered. They are beautiful. They will eat out of your hands, and they go into these feeding frenzies which are amazing to watch. They're just cool. I've heard of koi who liked this kid so much that they all waited in line for him to feed them. FISH. They are COOL.

Plus it's just relaxing to sit back by the pond. I'm telling you if you haven't seen 150 full size koi in a feeding frenzy, you've never seen anything. I live by the omaha doorly zoo and they have all these full size (about 2 feet long) koi under this bridge, and you can throw them food- and they wig out- jumping on top of each other, climbing up on lily pads to get food - it's awesome.

Here's just a couple koi-

rofl -

You're gonna love your koi pond man, I've spent like 3 hours just chillin out by mine scaring off birds with the paintball gun.

I'm telling ya, sunset, nice glass of Ice tea, koi pond stock with koi, fountain rippling soothingly, unloading paintballs into birds is as close to nirvanna as I may ever get.

I helped my mother install a pond in our backyard back in Wisconsin about 10 years ago. It's not big enough for Koi, but ponds are great. My wife wants us to put one in when we buy our first house in the next couple of months. The planning is always the fun part. Then the work involved is great too. I could easily do it myself, but when you have 3 or 4 ppl helping you out, it's even better.

Yeah, my friends Koi are worth some serious $$. I think they're valued at over $4000 or something like that.
