This was on Markov-Cyssor last night (~1am PST), right before a crash.
I (and a mob of my fellow NC) were taking and holding a neutral base from a tower. A similar-sized mob of TR was attacking the same base from another tower, a bit further off. As I mentioned, we'd hacked the base, we were holding it. NC had a nice set of spitfire deployed in the courtyard, and were doing a pretty good job of keeping the TR out. So, being a helpful-type guy, I bring in an AMS and set it up in the courtyard. My fellows can now spawn right there in the base, and stage a better defense of the base. The down side: Because we were spawning at the base, we lost the other tower too. Now we don't have MAXes any more, but they do. Soon after I realized this, zone crash. And a good thing too, I had to get some SLEEP. So what do YOU think would have happened? Would the loss of our MAX spawning abilities have short-changed us? Would the TR's new spawning location have made them succeptible to loosing their more distant tower? I'm just trying to figure out if I did the right thing or not. |

Problem with AMS inside a courtyard is that they get easily destroyed. Also, yes. Because everyone wants the convienence of spawn location, they don't spawn in traditional tubes.
This becomes a problem because the lower levels of the base become less protected. A little invis sneak or small squad has less resistance inside the structure. If they destroy the generator, quipement consoles, and eventually your AMS, then you're screwed. As for losing the tower, sheer numbers would have done that. I find that holding a tower is difficult. Taking one is much easier with a large force. The defending force is backed into a corner. If they are pushed & held in the lower spawn level, a hack can be done harrassment free. I only deploy an AMS when there is no spawn point. At that point, it's best to have MANY ams'. Again, sheer numbers will win out. |

We were hacking a neutral base, so it's spawn points didn't count.
We had the tower, an AMS against the outside of the back wall of the base, and my AMS inside the courtyard, tucked into an out-of-the-way corner to make it more difficult to spot people as they decloaked. |
