Am getting a bit...well... I feel like a lemming in the really really large outfit. Sure the large scale fights are really great, and I'm not saying there are no tactics... in fact, the coordination of multi-tier command structures is amazing. Its a powerful and solid playstyle.
But lately, I've been wanting to spend more time outdoors... maybe with a baslisk, a sniper rifle, or a small team .... an assault buggy, etc. From an EXP perspective, no matter how you are involved in a capture, you are still rewarded. I think the versatility of PS is wonderful..... and the fact that players can have fun in various sized teams. I am wondering how the built in command ranks will flow with the extremely large outfits, who basically play the game as if they were the only ones in the empire.... not that they dont respect and enjoy fighting along side their empire-mates, but when running 5 or more squads, if a large outfit focuses, it really doesnt need to pay much attention to the other outfits. Sure, they still work along side them, but will there need to be a reason to coordinate with them? Will the large outfits ignore the CR channel abilities in favor of their own will? Will JoeShmoe who is CR5, and has a solid 10 man squad have any voice at all in the scheme of things? My guess is he will be carted around by the large outfits, who because of their numbers, superceed the command rank channels. This is not because the large outfits mean to disrepect Joe, its just that he isn't really a factor in what they do... another 10 people... might not be worth the time to factor into their next move. Again, I am NOT dogging the large outfit, I'm just wondering how it will play out. Just some food for thought. |

Yup, that's why I left my old outfit. You lose your individuality and importance in larger ones, it seems. There just isn't enough of a sense of person there. I couldn't talk to the leader, my text would be pushed up by the 20 other ppl talking at the same time. It got annoying as hell. Especially since he kept every1 but himself and his friend in the fodder catergory. I left after 2 days. I can't stand to back to a large outfit. Just not worth it.

Greetings,
I get invites to the large and small outfits all the time, but some friends of mine and family from IRL plan to make our own outfit. It might be only 20 folks, but we'll work well together and have a similiar focus within the game. I don't want to just be a number. Playing in an outfit of friends means you'll have more fun imho. The guilds on EverQuest that were friends and family based were always the strongest and longest lasting. The ones that were just out for power and numbers eventually would die off from internal struggles. A skilled outfit of 10 folks who are effective because they are used to working together and are good at working together is going to be much more valuable to a commander than an outfit of strangers. 8-) |
