Greetings everyone. I'm looking at getting Planetside, but I'm stuck on 56K dialup in Yerevan Armenia.
I can get consistent 430ms ping times to werner.planetside.com. Any chance I will be able to play Planetside without major frustration? I'd be fine with playing a support class (medic, engineer, etc.) as long as I could do it sucessfully with this level of latency. I want to be able to play with people...single player everything is getting pretty old. Is there any hope for me? PS: if you have any cert/role recommendations for a HPB like myself, please feel free to chime in... |

Oh, forgot to mention that my system should be fine for running PS and should not be the source of any lag.
Barton @ 400mhzFSB x 11 (2200) with 1 gig of DDR ram, ATI 9700 Pro, blah blah blah. I've tried to optimize my system for 56K gaming, since there is NOTHING else here (well I could get Satellite, but latency gets worse). Heck, I even got two modems in my machine, a USR Performance Pro configured for low latency (V.34, No Error/No Compression, etc). The other is configured for web browsing (V.44 compression), etc. Packet loss is usually not a problem. My ISP is surprisingly good. Let me know what you think!! I dont want to get my hopes up if its not going to happen (or order a $50 that I cant play). |

I did a traceroute, and it looks fine until I hit a different Backbone in the UK. I'm sub 200 ms all the way to the UK, then POW, it shoots up 200 more as I head to the Werner server (looks like it's hosted in the Netherlands??) I get 98 ms ping times to local servers, thanks to many long nights trying out different init strings with my modem. I guess I will order the game and try it out... Any one have any recommendation for certs? Are vehicals more prone to lag problems, or less? |

What would starting certs look like for an infiltrator? Do ground vehicals have lag problems? I will rule out flying vehicals for now. |

Never mind about the infiltrator cert stuff. I found the guide here on the site.
I've got a friend who will be getting the game and has broadband. If we wanted to take a ground vehical, who would be the best choice for driver/gunner? Would we want the guy with the lowest lag to be the gunner, or driver. |

Sniper. You are usually on the outskirts, looking in at the battle. Sometimes I get lag, but not alot. Whenever I go in the battle with my gauss though... sometimes its really bad, and can't even see people :P. The only times you'll lag bad with sniping is when you are getting besieged on a tower or something, and you are trying to snipe on the roof, and thats only if there are like 3 plus squads attacking the tower.
