I heard you can get the 9500 Pro and supe it up to perform like 9800 Pro....

Hell played PS on a 7000 Pro
Was even able to save my Liberator during a crash landing while being fired on.
Put that in you pipe and smoke it Nvidia!

(Yea, I know I wasn't very helpful )

1: The regular 9800 is more than adequate.

2: I'd slam my nuts in a car door before I'd spend $450 on a VPU.

That is all.

If you look hard enough you can get an FX 5900 pro (new, not brand new) for about 300 dollars. The 5900 does better than the 9800 in nearly every legitimate area of 3d gaming that you would ever need a frikkin card for.

Point: get a 5900.

i believe a lot of people will disagree with that, me included

right now, the image quality settings in the nvidia drivers are FUCKED, there is no difference between no AA and 2x AA, which has led alot of the community to believe nvidia is using copouts again

also, the high AA settings look like somebody has smeared grease on your screen... it's just not good

also, the 9800 Pro takes less of a hit with the AA than the 5900 does

Yah, but when the driver settings are un-fucked, what card has both more potential, and running power? In both concept, and trial, the 5900. I do agree with the driver problem at the moment, but problems like that don't last, and when they are fixed, a lot of people will be sorry they didn't get a 5900.

BTW, many next generation games (e.g. Deus Ex 2, Half-life 2 ), were nearly designed to run better with Nvidia cards.

the 5900 probably is slightly more powerful, but not so much you even notice a difference

you can't just dismiss drivers out of the equation, they are the soul of the card, how it performs, how it looks. no matter how much unbridled power a card has, if it doesn't have the drivers to use that power, i'll take it's competitor instead

ok, now you don't know what you're talking about with what you're saying

i follow Half-Life 2 religiously, and let me tell you, it does not work that way

the designers of the game do not use special optimizations for a certain brand, they design the game to run the best they can, run it on different test systems with different cards. they notice problems with a certain card, technology or feature set, they go and they squash it, and they do this till it runs the best it can on each board.

meanwhile, they do work with the developers of the card technology with help in understanding why a certain card has a problem, and sometimes the card devs find faults with their drivers and such and change the, especially with a game like HL2, which is the fuel for thousands of vid card and hardware purchases.

there are no deals between game devs to optimize a game for a card, that's not smart business wise at all, you're just gonna piss off the other half the market away from your game because they have an ATI or Nvidia and not whatever card it was optimized for.

all that "Meant to be played on Nvidia" is complete bullshit, a marketing campaign basically, there are very few actual harcore nvidia optimizations in any of those games.
