I found the link to the Dark and Light MMORPG website in one of the 'ads by google' in the forum header...anyway this game seems pretty interesting, I just signed up for the beta. The world is 40,000km and its not split up into several servers like planetside, its one huge world

That desert picture accurately describes what their needlessly large world is going to be like. Lot's and lot's of copy-paste terrain, filled with random mobs, little actual hand-crafted content, and God help them if they don't include a way to get about the world very quickly at release, otherwise you're going to be spending a lot of time just getting to where you want to go.
All in all, the game looks like garbage. I've always thought the "one big world, woah dood!" concept to be inherently flawed as, unless you expect your game to have few customers, you would never be able to design enough content to actually support that many people without taking a lot away from other aspects of the game. And I don't think they have the staff to do that. In essence, the game is going to be a bunch of random shit strewn about miles and miles of bland, uninteresting terrain, and on the side I'm imagining crippling bugs and technical difficulties inherent in these bargain-bin MMORPGs. And glancing at the website I see here descriptions etcetera which look as if they were written by a blind 12 year old Portugese kid, hilariously bad artwork, even worse screenshots, 12 incredibly hackneyed races (WELL I'M GLAD TO SEE WE'VE GOT 4 KINDS OF ELVES THIS IS A SORELY NEEDED FEATURE IN FANTASY MMORPGS), and a bunch of other horrible garbage that basically guarentees this game to be set to suck. I assume they're using a purely skill-based system too, like UO, which also sucks immensely. Last edited by Warborn; 2003-11-27 at 10:36 PM. |

UO was fun for a while... but the world was too big... now it's even bigger... that was their error... you could walk for hours... sail for hours... get to the point where you want without seeing one person... then you got to some town and you would see 100 players standing in the same spot yelling they have crap to sell for too much.

Hamma's going to ban Google for introducing RPG ads.

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |
