The basic Armed forces yes, but you're not counting the SEALS, Green Berets, etc. Since most Israeli forces are used solely for CT, they're going to completely own our basic troops. However, if you were to go up against any US Special Force unit, I'd guarantee a loss.

British SBS commando to get 'American VC'
By Michael Smith, Defence Correspondent
(Filed: 26/03/2002)

AMERICA is to award the Congressional Medal of Honour, the equivalent of the Victoria Cross, to a British Special Boat Service commando who led the rescue of a CIA officer from an Afghan prison revolt.

It will be the first time the medal has been awarded to a living foreigner. The Queen will have to give permission for the SBS soldier to wear it.

The SBS senior NCO led a patrol of half-a-dozen SBS commandos who rescued a member of the CIA's special activities section from the fort at Qala-i-Jangi near Mazar-i-Sharif, last November. The fort was holding 500 al-Qa'eda and Taliban prisoners, many of whom had not been searched and were still armed.

An exchange of fire developed into a full-scale revolt and two CIA officers who had been interrogating the prisoners were caught in the battle. One, Johnny "Mike" Spann, was killed by the prisoners. The other, who has been named only as Dave, was trapped inside.

The SBS patrol was about to leave the area when the revolt broke out but returned to rescue Dave. The uprising went on for three days and the SBS commandos remained throughout, bringing down aerial fire to quell the revolt.

The battle was one of the most contentious episodes in the war last year with human rights groups raising concerns over air strikes against prisoners, some of them unarmed. The SBS is often seen as a poor relation of the SAS but has been present at all leading special forces operations of recent years.

The eagerness of the Americans to recognise the courage of the NCO contrasts with suspicion within the regiment that two SAS soldiers being considered for VCs for an attack on the al-Qa'eda cave complex will not get them.

One led the main attack on the heavily defended al-Qa'eda mountain cave complex near Kandahar while the other directed aerial fire at extreme risk to his life
Sorry I had to post that.

Probably O F N, but that's so cool. "first time the medal has been awarded to a living foreigner."

I shouldn't keep talking due to my past as losing my temper but I think I can handle it. I'm joining the NAVY but my friends say I should be a Marine, a sniper. One perticular friend said he had a "dream" of me on a mountain laying behind my Rifle on a bi-pod with a mision to assassinate some guy. Then I'm sitting there looking through his family photo album laughing at his family, while prepping for my shot. I would love that job.

Maybe I am spamming, I don't know. But teddy you should really read up on your history and news before saying shit like that.

Edit: my army is better than yours!

Ok, just because im a stubborn bitch, I just want to know if anyone can tell me if this statment have even a grain of truth.

To be in the UK special forces, you must first have already served in the armed forces for 3 years. the upper age limit for joining is 27 is most cases. so they must have joined before they are 27, and as well as having 3 years experiance beforehand means most have spent about...7 years in the forces, and aswell as having 3 years experiance, they could already be a combat veteran, not to mention being a lot more mature.

To be in the US special forces you can apply straight from civilian life, meaning they have no previous experiance, and when they go to war, it will be for the first time. (i know some soldiers transfer, but a lot of it's recruits are fresh from civvy street.) When the SAS goes to war, all of it's soldiers will have been on operations beforehand and some will be veterans, if they have been in combat with their previous unit.

another thing: How can you compare the US SF training to the UK's when already world class soldiers fail the UK selection? Civvies pass the US SF selection!
Though to be honest, this debate is moot, as it pretty much impossible to verify. But it fun to talk about anyway....

Yeah that's complete bullshit. To clarify, you can apply for Ranger school and Seals school (BUDS), when you enter, but it's pretty much just expressing desire and they tag your file. You have to complete all the requisite infantry training and then go off to testing to see if you're accepted to either. If you get through the multiple month testing phase, then you're still not a Ranger or SEAL, you still have to go through that training, which is a few more years. On top of that, you must be of certain rank (I believe) to be a seal. Rangers are not as elite as seals at all and shouldn't be compared. I believe our average age was also about 35. For the actual "Special forces" like delta or green berets, members are selected from active duty forces for exceptional performance under combat conditions. So while there's a grain of truth in the above statement, it's deliberately distorted.
