no, actualy it doesnt make sense, as a minority myself, i dont care, infact, id want more minorites to serve in the military, infact, i think it should be mandatory for all americans to serve a term, i know i am. and its a good thing gender wont matter, because women want equal rights, and let them have it.

Have you people stepped outside at all in like, the past 100,000 years?
Are you aware of the fact that women are the exact same species as men? THE EXACT SAME BIOLOGICAL MAKE UP! OMG! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT? Women can fight on the front line and take a bullet better than men can. It has been statistically proven that women have a higher tolerance for pain than men do. Women are patient and tactical. Women could fight along the front lines and only don't at this point in time because of the threat of POW situations and rape by enemies. Welcome to 2004!

There is no way in hell there will be a draft unless WWIII breaks out. If the US government has to draft people for Iraq because they need troops then by God we must be losing a lot of troops. If somthing like that ever does happen, the government had better be smart enough to pull out rather than start another Vietnam.

Triggar, you seem to have fallen prey to some portion of feminist propoganda. There might have been one study where women have a higher pain threshold than men, but there are many, many more that refute that assertion. Perhaps all this means is that this matter is inconclusive. As far as women being more 'patient and tactical' than men, that is a fairly broad and undefined assertion as well.
While I believe that modern war is much more conductive to participation by women at every point in the chain, though not front line infantry, there is no need to make dubious claims of female superiority. Reason they can't be in front line infantry is mostly because of the men, and not them.

I never said that women were more patient and tactical than men, I just said that we WERE patient and tactical. I said this to refute the idea that women are skirt-wearing, tea-sipping pansies.
I also never said that women are superior. I said that women should be considered equal, and treated equally in all situations, including combat situations. Granted there are things to consider - what JakeLogan said - but there are men with these issues as well. With proper training, there isn't any excuse why women shouldn't be along the front lines with men. If women choose to be in that position, they should get adequate briefing on the risk of rape and abuse in POW camps (outside of what male POW's would receive), but should receive the same PT as men and should be held to the same standards.

Sorry but women will not be held to the same standards as men. Jessica Lynch proved that. She got a silver star for not taking proper care of her equipment (Her gun jammed after one shot) and getting raped and tortured. While 2 men (that I know of) proved themselves to be great soliders still fighting while they had been shot and took out several enemies then were captured and tortured got only bronze stars.
EDIT: Now don't get me wrong I'm sure rape is a horrible ordeal to go through. But crashing your Vehicle and breaking you leg THEN having your gun jam for no apparent reason (other then poor care) does not mean you deserve a silver star. Last edited by JakeLogan; 2004-04-23 at 03:01 PM. |

Well that's bullshit.
I think we need to cut the shit about "women being different" - and that includes women who think they should be treated differently. Jessica Lynch didn't deserve a silver star, and they shouldn't have given it to her. There has to be less focus on gender and more attention to basic performance. Who cares if it's a penis or a vagina behind the trigger??
