Punisher or Empire Rifle?

With the Medium Assualt weapon cert you will have the option to use either the Punisher or your empire specific weapon (Pulsar,Cycler, and Gauss).

Which do you see yourself using more often. Why?

As a wanna-be medic, I will most likely go with my empire rifle (Gauss) to save inventory space (under-barrel ammo vs medical applicator canisters).

I'm going Vanu, so I'll use my empire-specific rifle just on the merit that it uses the same kind of ammo as any other weapon I may decide to carry and doesn't switch clips to fire normal or AP rounds. Besides, the punisher is mad ugly.

Punisher is a multirole weapon so it is better for Agile/Standard which have only one rifle slot. The empire rifles are better for Reinforced since the extra slot can be used for a secondary weapon like a rocket launcher.

Im going to be NC, and Im going to go Gauss for the extreme damage and decently fast fire rate it has. I feel its worth sacrificing the Anti-Vehicular option for.

That is a good point. Of course, you have to spend extra cert points on more weapons...

Medic/Engineer - Vanu Pulsar cause I only have to have one type of ammo.

Plain Soldier (if I'm not in MAX) - Punisher for the grenade launcher. Or might try a Pulsar & Thumper combo.

If you are going for an infantryman, you should go hardcore and stick with weapons/abilities. Specialization makes for a better infantryman (Who should always do medic/engineering/hacking plus a variety of armor and weapon certs), stealther, MAXer, or vehicle driver/pilot.

I say Gauss. I like the longer range and higher damage it does compared to the punisher.

If I am in Agile armor and can only carry one weapon, it is still the gauss. If there are MAXs and tanks around, then I want my vehicle support and soldiers with Anti-vehicle weapons to take care of them. I should concentrate on killing infantry. The empire specific rifles should be better at killing infantry than the punisher.

If I am in reinforced armor then one of my weapons should be anti-vehicle.
