First, and Last look at Face of Mankind

First off, the graphics... Lith Engine... like 2 or more years old....

Okay now that we are passed that thought.. the game FEELS like AO in it's setting all futuristic, with sub=par graphics and an unintuitive control scheme. Once I figured things out, it almost tried to feel like an FPS... here's the gig I spent over 1 HOUR in game, and the whole time I couldn't navigate the mission system, never found a weapon, never fired a shot, never found anything.. it was like running around a sterile world.

Also, other players can do "emotes" that you HEAR. I ran by one guy 10 TIMES in the course of the hour.. he kept repeating "Lamer" with the gayest in game voice I had ever heard....

Really.. that was impressive.. I swear. (gag me now please)

While it TRIES to feel like an FPS.. crouching was toggle on and off.. not smooth. To do anything RPG wise.. you had to hit ESC. Now that's fine and dandy if you use WSAD (which I don't I use my number pad) but the default controls were based aroung the 4 ARROW keys. Speaking of, if oyu don't use wsad as your base, then you run out of buttons and fingers REAL fast.

Over all I rate the 1 hour I spent as a tottal and complete waste. I will now go take a much deserved shower, hit the sack, and wake up around 0300 to play WoW and shake off that horror I suffered through.

I would not reccomend this "free open beta" to my worst enemies. Ever.

Yeah, it's an old engine, it doesn't look like complete arse and it runs well on alot of systems, maximising the playerbase. Graphics don't mean much to me, sure they're nice, but I'd rather play pong than some of the games available today.

I listened to the other people, within 15 mins I had a weapon and was doing a mission.

I prefer toggle crouching, saves me holding a button down (damn keyboard can only do 3 presses at a time). The ESC bit is annoying, but you really can't complain about running out of buttons if you use your control scheme.

Anyway, my 2p, not meant as a flame or anything.

I have high hopes for this game, it's a good idea (Like neocron), but the execution is looking poor.

I judge a game by its "jump and play" factor.

If I have to jump through hoops to get anywhere, then it's not worth my time.

I got really bored jumping through hoops.

I would have to agree with Mr. V. At first I was just confused as to how to do things, then some nice joe helped me out. As soon as I wasn't confused I was just disapointed. It isn't any good right now, but thats what beta is for I guess.

I will prolly check back in with it when it gets closer to release and see if its any better, but it isn't looking good right now...

Graphics aren't all that for me, but after playing WoW, EQII.. HL2... then going BACK in time graphics wise this much..
