The Dev Team has recently announced some upcoming changes to the Battle Experience System. After listening to the player base and tossing in a few ideas of their own, they've come up with the following:
We are planning to revamp the Experience System in order to encourage participation in the outstanding group experience in PlanetSide and offer tangible rewards for group operations. The current system offers more Battle Experience rewards for solo play, and so we are proposing the following system in order to change that.
Battle Experience for group operations will be awarded based on squad proximity. Squads that maintain close proximity during combat will be awarded higher experience than squads who separate. For the purposes of this design, close range for a 2 man squad would be defined as staying in an area similar to the size of a tower SOI. Medium range would be an area similar to a facility SOI. Long range would be all points outside of the previous two ranges. These ranges scale up depending on the size of the squad. The farthest member from the rest of the squad would be thrown out of the proximity equation, in order to allow for squads to keep a support character or scout at longer ranges while still benefiting from the close proximity of the rest. Also, certain modifiers will also be considered for teammates in vehicles, since those grant the ability to support group operations from longer distances.
At close range, soldiers will receive full Battle Experience credit for their own kills, as well as a percentage of the Experience for the kills scored by Squadmates. At medium range, soldiers will earn the majority of the credit for kills they score on their own, and a smaller percentage of their teammates experience. As they progress to longer range, a smaller segment of the experience for kills.
