-completely off topic-

Is it just me or are the Everquest II ads on this page ironic and annoying?

Orbital battles would be great for Moons, like... link satellites.

If we had control, we could see detailed statistics of other continent battles. And the moons and Satellites will revolve like they do naturally, so the angle of observance will always be moving, thus making controlling the right satellite crucial FOR THE MOMENT. Of course, this would also control Orbital strikes!

That's just my dumb 2 cents. Anyone else agree?

Yeah, as cool as it was when the Bending happened, I never really understood the reason why. Changing it from continents on a single planet to continents on multiple planets felt completely pointless.

Perhaps they can call the sequel "Planetside: The Un-Bending" and bring it all back to 1 planet and have a space combat expansion.

(look at me already talking about expansions)

I'd be ok with bring back the orbital platforms and doing some HALO drops to get to combat.

I'd rather have small naval craft, underwater breathing implants, maybe an underwater MAX, and offshore oil-rig platforms.

I never understood the bending myself either. It seemed forced and not really needed. The leadup event's were quite fun but meh. I honestly thing we will be seeing PlanetSide during a different time window.

Well I like the idea about space combat sounds like it could be really great if done in the right way. But I think that would be a good expansion because I hope PSN will be succesful and we will see several expansions to it.

If anything I want to be able to walk around the HART. Am I the only one who has got on the HART only to want to switch load-outs?

Give the HART a few equipment Terminals and a a view the continent/planet below.

Then when the player is ready he can go up to a drop pod and land on his or her's desired continent.

I was thinking about PS:N and space combat, and had some ideas that link to other games.

Firstly, take a look at this: http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=113&Item id=93.
It's from an indie MMO thats currently in development, which features a procuderally generated, full scale galaxy, and this video shows the seamless transition from space to ground. (By the way, the landing is about halfway though the video, if for some reason you hate stations and rings.)
I was thinking that PS:N could have a similar system, with the factions based in orbit, with troops and vehicles dropping through the atmosphere to any point on the planet.
This would completely remove the need for seperate continents, and would mean everyone would fight over just one planet.
Not sure how technically feasable this is, but it's just an idea.

Secondly, to handle actual combat in space, see this HL2 mod http://www.moddb.com/mods/eternal-silence.
This multiplayer mod features NPC capital ships/stations acting as bases for player controlled smaller ships, which fight in space, or land on the enemy ship and fight for control on foot.

Shattered Horizon, which was mentioned above is also a good example of how to do infantry based space combat.

Finally, something that is only thematically related: http://www.interstellarmarines.com/.
This might be of interest to people in this thread, but isn't really of much use to PS:N otherwise .

TLDR; links to cool space games that PS:N could possibly draw from.

Remove HART.

Remove Warpgates.

Improve Galaxy for space orbit. Galaxy go into orbit to relocate to another continent. Safe from all harm until after breaching atmosphere.

Wow. It may be a bit too optimistic to hope for something like this in Next but that was really impressive.

Keep it simple, stupid!

The formula for PSN should be Plantside plus better graphics plus hitboxes minus BFR's. At least wait until the expansion before you start completely screwing up the whole game with huge additions like space stations.
