I hate to be like the Californians and get all hipster like they did about the east coast earthquake, but... this hurricane was nothing. This hurricane is a farcical joke. It was a pissant Cat.1 by the time it hit us down in DC. Its major threat is flooding and blowing around loose patio furniture which can damage property, or knocking a few limbs down which might accidentally hit people.

Honestly, hurricanes don't typically do too much damage at a CAT 1 except for storm surge (right near the water). Wind can cause some damage but nothing too crazy. CAT 3 and up really bad storm surges and wind will cause old trees and fences to break and fall. Throw some loose things around which could take out a window (hence boarding up windows is good idea). And they can last for a long time with same intensity.
People are more cautious about hurricanes since Katrina. The thing about Katrina and New Orleans is that was a special case. People were living under false security, thinking the water levys would hold. When the levys broke, and since the city is below sea level, here comes the sea to join you in the city. Cat1 or not, eleven people lost their lives with Irene. Any loss of life is not acceptable. Think of this before posting with your flippant attitude you tend to use. Takes a big man to go on like you did. What if it was one of your family that was killed by the storm. You'd sing a different tune then wouldn't you.

I'd like to see you say so to their families since you take their deaths so lightly. You have more information into the cause of these people's deaths? I think not. Your comment and opinion mean squat.

I've experienced a few hurricanes and noreasters up here in PA before. Other hurricanes have knocked trees down and put out power for forever.
But this one flooded more than anything has flooded my area and other areas before. New Jersey was in a state of emergency and although we all wished New Jersey would float away, that's kind of a big deal. Many areas were closed off and evacuated. This Hurricane generated tornadoes bro...... Either you're pretending to be hardcore or never experienced hurricanes up here before. I may be a little agitated because I had to get water out of my friend's basement in the same fashion as throwing water off a sinking ship. Was Irene nothing? No definatley not, you're seriously retarded or rediculously uninformed if you think so. I walked outside and drove in it and experienced it, watched the news on it and saw the aftermatch, as I have many other storms and hurricanes. Last edited by Graywolves; 2011-08-28 at 08:05 PM. |
