I'm "campaigning" for a rename because I just don't think it sounds that great.
I didn't know about the vacuum cleaner thing, never heard about that before. The name makes me think about Dyson Spheres. That said, it can't hold a candle to how awesome, for example, Eclipse sounds. And I am not sold on the idea that looks factor that much into it. Does the Reaver look like... something about to eat something? The Mosquito alredy lost it's proboscis-like antennae-thingie (though I guess the nose gun still works for the mosquito image) |

Yeah, I'm in agreement with Hamma and some of you others. While the name Dyson might have an awesome origin (in that he was a scientist), the contemporary context will make people think of Vacuums.
For instance, when someone says "Buckee Balls," most people will think of testicles o.O However, Buckee Balls are actually a soccer-ball shaped geometry that was an amazing discovery by Buckminster Fuller. Yes, some people will know the actual origin of the term, but most people won't, and we want the names in Planetside 2 to resonate with the culture in general. So I think Dyson is a fine "working name" for while the game is still in development, but it shouldn't be the final name. And to comment on a prior post, yes, I had considered The Eclipse, as well. That one would also be fantastic, along with my present favorites of "The Stratos" (or Stratofighter) and "Helion." ~Zachariah |

My vote is first for Stratos and second for Eclipse. Helion is alright too, but I'm not feeling it as much. |

Like the name. Dyson is ok, but I'm going to think about silly hand dryers and spherical vacuum cleaners every time I get in one. Other possible name might be Polar (pronounced POE-lar), which is a highly magnetic white dwarf star in astronomy. Last edited by Quovatis; 2011-09-29 at 12:08 PM. |

Polaris may be better than Polar to avoid pronunciation confusion. Would make for a pretty good name as well.
All I can think with the name Magnetar is that I want a little tractor beam on the bottom of my fighter so that I can lift people way up into the air and drop them to their death. On second thought, yes, do that. Gimme a Magnetar. |

On a similar topic of names and what they conjure up, was I the only one who thought of this every time I saw a Comet MAX? |

How about the Probe? (every good Vanu driver is sitting on one - fact )
I would rather they kept to numbers for the Vanu tech e.g. VT366. It makes it clean and gives it cold rationalisation over the other Empires humanising of weapons of war and gives another way of differentiating between the factions. |
