Deskless Gaming Command Center

This is less on the techy side but more on the PS gaming comfort/setup side. I recently created a new PC gaming setup because I got really sick of the old desk. It led to bad posture, cramped legs, and other bad things for someone who spends a lot of time. I wanted a setup where I could be as comfortable as say an Xbox gamer. So I went out and created my dream setup.

Now for the time lapse...

Here is what I started with. Your typical desk PC gaming setup in a cramped corner.

Then I tore it all down.

Cleaned it all out, brought in parts for the new TV stand.

Brought in chair and building TV stand.

Completed stand and mounted new Samsung UN55D8000 55" LED TV.

Brought PC, side tabe, and monitor back in and hooked it up to the TV and gave 'er a whirl (Natural Selection 2 is on-screen).

And the final setup with completed stand, LEDs on back of stand for back lighting, ottoman, mouse/gameboard platforms, and everything cleaned up.

Here's my perspective of BF3. Shows LED back-lighting I mounted. Much Better than the cramped desk in the corner!

Now some of you may be curious about the mouse/gamepad platforms and that oh-so-awesome chair I have. That was easily half the project.

I started with a chair. This chair was perfect as it has a solid base around the cupholders with which to put platforms for mouse & gameboard.

Then I did a lot of measurements and designed what the platforms should be. I used the size of a mousepad and gameboard and then played some games to see if that space was sufficient (it was). I designed it in Visio to-scale to make precise cutting. Here is the wood cut and routered for the top platform.

Made side and support boards to-spec and had the chair on-hand to test the fitting.

We built 3 armrest (one is backup) platforms & 1 larger platform that spans and sits atop the other two. This is for when I want to have a full mouse & keyboard setup across my lap.

Then the platforms get painted & glossed.

Here they are on the chair.

Here's another angle.

Total cost for my new command center (excluding PC) was about $3500. TV was $2000, Stand was $300, Chair was $700, side table was $120, Ottoman $70 + random cables, platform expenses, etc. You could go cheaper on the TV obviously if you wanted to. I already had the monitor, PC and the bookshelf.

Yeah I bought a new flatscreen tv that I have my new pc hooked up to, and i used my old lcd monitor as a secondary screen. I really like it, however i dont have a good comfy set up yet. Its currently mounted on the wall that my desk is against. So im quite close to this rather huge screen, and im still stuck with my now very old chair.

I'm lookin into a new chair, but now seeing what you have, im thinkin i may get somethin really comfy and build my own set up to use my pc while in it.

I have the same sort of setup, though considerably less refined. I also prefer having my monitors higher than head level so my head can lay back against the seat.

I got rid of those monitors a while back(2x 24 inchers now), but otherwise its largely unchanged.

Indeed it does. My monitors have a rather large bezel, so I cut the plastic case off where they meet to reduce it from ~2 inches to roughly 3/4 of an inch between them.

Now all you need is a waitress in a skimpy outfit.

Now, if that was my pictures, it would be some hotel room, a laptop with crazy specs, and Genuine Thai Red Bull handy.

That is, if I had the budget. I have the Red Bull. Nice appetite suppressant, if ever I found one. Not the Kool-Aid they sell in the Western Hemisphere, the real stuff they sell anywhere you can find Asians.

I wonder if someone has ever had a computer that played the most up-to-date games, without EVER having a frame go bad, no lag, no below-30fps, etc. moments? With all features set on maximum.

The games always seem to be a couple generations ahead of the computers' capability to crank them up to max.
