fair play and chivalry? All is fair in love and war my friend... Trolling and griefing comes about some one not liking the way another plays. =D

Now that I've gotten a glimpse of what the bases look like, the next biggest thing I'm excited about is seeing what the different classes can do, especially the Engie, Infil, and Medic. For example, I noticed there were no turrets on the base or towers, so perhaps the Engies supply those? (or the base is still in development and they just weren't put in yet)

I found the below quote interesting. There's been people saying that they think we won't have to cert in vehicles but this quote kinda debunks that.
"PlanetSide 1 only let you call up vehicles from dedicated stations and pilot them once you’d earned the certification, and that system looks likely to continue in the sequel. PlanetSide 2’s top end will be able to scoot into battle on a quadbike, hop off to climb into a tank, eviscerate enemy defences from behind and jet out in a fighter gunship." |

You don't "cert" vehicles like you would in PS1, in PS2 you just "train" the skill. Since you can only train 1 skill at a time, you can see how it becomes a nice balance of abilities. If you want to constantly train the Air Cav Skill Tree and get all the bells-n-whistles for awesome air stuff, you'll sacrifice some grunt class skills like heavy weapons, weapon sidegrades, etc....

I'm pretty sure they've stated no caps. Just limits on what you can use at one time. So no one man armies, but one man will eventually be able to fill any role in the army as long as he goes and switches to the right class, or gets the right loadout, or hops into the right vehicle.

It sounds like in PS2, you'll still be able to do all those things, but just not all at once. |

PS1 also had things like agiles piloting reavers while carrying HA.
I think the fact that there will be so much specialization in PS2 will prevent one man armies, even if one man can do everything at some point. I really think that it was the fact that you could be in Rexo with AV and HA and have hacking and medical and engi tools to deal with whatever you wanted. Combine that with things like hot dropping out of air cav with HA and the same usual REK and med and engi tools and you have a serious one man army situation going on. Being able to decide to pull out a tank or an aircraft or a MAX is much less one man army to me because you have to actually think ahead most of the time and decide what you are actually going to want or need. The only exception will be in situations where your base is being overwhelmed and you are standing at an equipment terminal deciding in that moment exactly what would be the best class to push back the enemy. But even then, if they find ways of designing bases so that Light Assault and Infiltrators and other non Heavy Assault or MAXes can still be useful, you still won't have one soldier being able to do it all, all at one time. The only real limiting factors or "Cap" in PS2 are: 1) Battle Rank and 2) Time.
You can create a queue of the skills that you want to train and you're limited on how long it will take you to do that...as well as your BR. Higby said it best ( I believe it was him) that you can't log in on day 1 ..queue all your skills, then go AFK for 7 months and come back knowing everything. Think of more advanced skills in the tree as a "higher level" skill... both taking longer to train and a certain battle rank to unlock. In the end, you can have every vehicle and every weapon unlocked and trained but, as mentioned earlier, you can't do all of that at the same time (thus preventing the 1-man army of air cav-HA-AV-rexo-advMed-eng). You can do all of those things, but not together... it's a little more of a vertical spec rather than horizontal. Last edited by Baron; 2011-10-31 at 02:27 PM. |

From the 5th paragraph down on the player classes article:
OK, ok, I know Higby may not have meant that cloakers can wield a Boltdriver... but that passage sure makes me think they can!
