Mechwarrior Online

Since this community seems to not like mechs much I'll leave this here for the fans of mechwarrior.

Premium F2P PC Only Mechwarrior Game. Not much more to ask for really.

Link

I'm with a lot of people. This could turn out amazing or horribly bad like World of Tanks.

Late 2012 Release. Nice. Also:
Ekman also promises that while players will be able to buy items with real money, nobody can buy anything that will confer a tactical advantage. “Anything that would affect or give you a tactical advantage, you can’t purchase with real cash. You have to earn that by playing the game,” he says.
Joystick wrote a piece also..

Re: Mechwarrior Online

About frikkin' time. I had this idea, an MMOFPS for the MW universe way back in 2003. Microsloth had just bought the rights and put out MW4, and then they launched Halo, so they let MW franchise just die.

This has the potential to be the best MMOFPS ever, if it is done right.

That's the catch, though, if it's done right.

In the MW universe, being an Elemental was the infantry choice. Usually, they have no chance. But, if played right, they could bring down an Assault Mech.

Hope they do well!

It sounds like it will be more of a persistent multiplayer game than a full on MMO. Not complaining, I love MechWarrior and I hope this turns out well. Sounds like it could be pretty promising.

I already reserved my name (Xyn, since it wasn't like Planetside which made me go longer than 3 letters).

Fuck yeah Battletech!

As long as I can headshot an Atlas with a Gauss-rifle toting Cougar I'll be happy.
(Way back in middleschool just before I got into planetside the first time I was in a MW4 clan...got into a digital version of the tabletop game for a while...did that in one game)

Isn't there supposed to be a new big MW game soonish...I remember a trailer from a bit ago.

Yeah, evidently one of the Mechs looked like some Gundam from something else.

By the time the game ever goes live, I don't know that it will be all that desirable, when the world is using DX22...or whatever, by that time.

The MW online, however, looks like IT has some promise.

That doesn't make sense, it was a Microsoft published game.

EDIT: Oh it was Macross/Robotech/Harmony Gold stuff again.
FFS people, those rights are such a clusterfuck why do you even try to put those mechs in? HG barely even knows if they have the rights.
MW4 got by just fine by remodelling them.

This is incorrect. HarmonyGold was not an issue, ever. The bigwigs at HarmonyGold gave their blessing, the original artists who did the Unseen artwork (who never even worked for HG) gave their blessing, and everything on that front was fine.

The issue was between Microsoft, Smith&Tinker (FASA founder's new outfit), and Piranha. The whole electronic rights thing was very convoluted to begin with, and Microsoft had to come up with a new set of contracts because Jordan Weisman, FASA founder and CEO of S&T, had already acquired the rights back from Microsoft, so they had to renegotiate everything. But that wasn't even the big reason for the delay. The big reason was the economic clusterfuck that we hit back in 2008-2009. Video game companies took a hard hit. A lot of people were laid off and a lot of projects got shelved or canceled.

When I googled I saw a lot about HG sending a C&D to IGN because of screens from the trailer and that was also the reason for the delay of the game. If that's not true fine.
The Unseen and Macross rights also seem likely sticky points because in the trailer had an original looking Warhammer in it - something that's treading on very thin IP ground.

It is, unless they have permission to use them. Which, they do. Even Catalyst Game Labs (the people who own the tabletop BattleTech rights) have been given the all-clear to push out Unseen art.

As for the HG issue:
http://mwomercs.com/news/2011/10/2-dev-blog-0

Halfway down:
Oh Yeah, Harmony Gold

Contrary to all the press and speculation that Harmony Gold was getting in the way of a deal or development, this had no impact whatsoever on development or signing a deal for MechWarrior.

Running on CryEngine 3? Interesting going to have some awesome graphics.... This could be a competitor to PS2?

I'll probs play both...

EDIT: Ah nvm, MWO is not going to have the same persistence as PS2.
