Learning from the mistakes of PS1. Let's all brainstorm here.

While PS1 is still up and running, we can all arguably agree that there were indeed some detrimental factors which contributed to the state the game is in now. However on the bright side, where one door closes another opens! Planetside 2 is underway and I think we should all voice our personal opinions on what should be avoided or taken care of this time around, so that we learn from the mistakes of PS1, and have a truly transcendental game that will be paramount to the old Planetside.

I haven't seen much mention about this lately, so I will voice my concerns here. For me, the biggest deal breaker in my humble opinion was the lack of advertising. Just about every popular game out now have all been on extensive advertising campaigns, ranging from internet ads to television ads, and I think television ads are vital to attract a lot more players.

Planetside1 had very little advertising. All of my friends who play BF3 now still have no clue what that game is, and never heard of it until I mentioned it to them. I keep telling them that PS2 is coming out next year and it will be an awesome MMOFPS, but they are simply ignorant to this... they think BF3 is going to be the only good shooter game for the next few years at least, and almost laugh when they hear me talking about some game by SOE that no one has ever heard of. Makes me look pretty stupid at times I bet.

Now, I don't mean to hate on BF3 at all... but what will be done about the low advertising on this game? Im pretty sure it's not a money issue, SOE has more then enough money for a few TV ads to promote their products... it is Sony after all.

The Guerrilla Marketing Campaign was great and all, and I think we should all be promoting this lovely game title to those around us, but the bulk should be handled by the game makers themselves.. we can only do our best and as PS1 showed, sometimes our best is not enough.

I really hope theres TV ads and a lot more promoting in general for PS2.

The internet is a giant funnel. In this day and age everyone has internet on their phone. It's so easy to spread Marketing directly too them either by word of mouth or conventional add campaigns. People will bite they just need to be given the opportunity. just how many of example's of that have we seen already?

I agree that SOE need's to advertise. We cannot make the same mistake twice. I know they can do it. I have seen them do it. It will be much easier to guerilla market planetside 2 with SOE in the ring too. More media media to spread. Fresh media to circulate. New and creative way's of doing so. We have to levy all the opportunity's we can.

If you move, your weapon loses its aimpoint. No more running at top speed while keeping an absolutely unwavering bead on your target.

No bailures. Another thread discusses that. You lose your plane, you can eject, with a knife, that's it. If having the fastest weapon in the game with multiple weapon systems on it isn't enough of a weapon for you, being awarded a whole other set of weapons and armor for bailing is not appropriate.

No Orbital Strikes. Game-ruining stupidity that didn't do anything to add any fun, or anything, for that matter, except slowing down gameplay and empowering cowards with small nukes.

Cheat detection and monitoring that leverages the power of the community.

Algorithms to find if someone is dual-boxing. That also adds nothing good to the game, for someone to play two empires at the same time, using one to spy.

MAX's to be less of a sitting duck, and more of a useful player.

No Reveal Enemies. This is used by cheaters over and over as their reason they could find you in the far end of an unoccupied continent, crouched, under a set of rocks.

No Reveal Friendlies. You want to know where they are? Ask. This will prevent this from being used from spies, cheaters, and traitors.

Cloakers that send no, as in none, positional or any other data to anyone outside 50m away. This way, no one can use cheats beyond 50m distance.

No Audio Amp. another thing exploited by cheaters ad nauseum. Even without cheating, it still makes the game suck. Want to know what is around the corner? Stick your head out and find out.

There isn't any third person for footsoldiers, which is good.

No same-glass One Shot Kills. Sure tanks can instagib softies, but not infantry of any sort to infantry of any other sort.

No hovering in planes, unless being below 75km/h locks all weapons. Hover all you want. You can't shoot anyone, however. If they were helicopters, with all the frailties and low speeds and slow acceleration associated with them, then fine, hover and fire. But not flying chariots of death that are faster than anything else in the game.

All aircraft weapons locked below 200m above the ground. If you want to be involved in ground warfare, then get a ground vehicle. Air is not supposed to be God mode. If you are in a dogfight, you have to stay above the hard deck.

Motorcycles. Leaning into turns would be grand fun, especially at high lean angles.

Empire T-shirts, so we can wear them outside the game, and publicize the game.

No, they would just have to do their stuff from higher than 1 foot of altitude. This would eliminate hovering around in forests, farming infantry on foot and other childish, exploitive behavior.

Making them a sitting duck for any Infantry with an AA or even AV weapon if they are hovering around in the same spot. Or any AA near the area, Or any other Air-cav.

Do you even think before you post?
