Also I think I know what that red light is on the guys helmets, it's linked to the TR patriot button on the belt. Once pressed the Patriot torch on the helm glows red and blazes the the symbol of the Great Terran Republic into the corneas of the enemy, that's why almost all TR wear goggles so as not to be afflicted by their own great weapon.... come on I have to be close to the mark on that one!
If not Higby & TRay, make it so!
I would pay $2000 USD for the patriot belt button red light frame...

I want that more than I want my massive TR banner and flag now.

Maybe the heavier the armour, the flashier it'll be? Encouragement for using light armour classes for stealth and night tactics...

Or they feed bullshit to everyone during night land navigation.
It's mostly to avoid night blindness. They use red lights in mining shafts etc as well for the same reason.

Red is used for both... Low levels of red light do not constrict our pupils the way that white light would, so we can maintain our dark adaptation. Bright red is more noticable (we have many more RG photoreceptors than B, especially in our central vision/focus), hence why it is used in stop lights and stop signs. The reasons for both of these are pretty complicated, I can't totally remember them even though I just took a class on color vision last quarter (optometry school).

IIRC, the rod cells in your eyes (which are mainly responsible for night vision) can't really detect light in the red spectrum. So even tho they're way more sensitive to light in general than your R/G/B cone cells (by something like a factor of 50, if not more), you can still use a fairly bright red light source and not lose your night vision since it won't be picked up by your rod cells and cause them to overload/desensitize and won't cause pupil contraction.

So not only do you keep your night vision when using a red light source, you also don't give away your position because the red light's intensity over distance quickly drops to the point where an observers red cones can't detect the light at all.

The density of R/G cones vs Blue cones I believe has to do with identifying food sources (like ripe vs unripe fruit, colorful birds and insects, etc) as well as recognizing dangers like poisonous plants and animals (which often use the color red as a warning to others). The red and green cones are more densely packed near our focal point for this reason too.

if you think those lights are too bright to be a reflection... i think the logos are made of a special extreme reflecting cateye material (3m anyone?) and the sun seems to be on the right side, not behind. a special reflector material doesn´t need a very special vector to the sun, like a flat metal surface would need to hit your eye with a reflection.

the glowing logos on the vs picture looked a lot like being cateyes, too

The face models need some work, they just look really generic and dead behind the eyes. You can use the excuse that most people will have the helmets on but they wont all the time and when making your character you care about what they look like.
