Good game for practice?

Well that question sounds cheesy, I'm mostly looking for a newer game similar in feel to PlanetSide to get my guild hyped for PS2. We have a big guild but it's hard getting them all interested in one game.

Was thinking about Section 8 Prejudice since you can get 4 keys for 45 bucks on Steam but then I noticed you could pre-order for instance beta access on Tribes Ascend.

Is there any go-to sci-fi shooter for this forum, aside from PS1?

Why not play PS1? Sub price?

Honestly, there is no real comparison.

No other game really comes close to giving you proper training, and i'm not just saying that because i'm a fan boy. Battlefield 3 is probably going to be the closest, but apart from that - general FPS practise to get the aim up to scratch is always a good bet.

BFBC2 is probably the closest thing, its TTK matches more what SOE are aiming for than BF3.

Don't know that I could get them interested in a game that old. Also time is a issue, I just want a game night two or three times a week for PS2 practice/fun. I assume it would take months to get a brand new PS1 outfit to a competitive level we could have any fun with.

there is no real comparison for ps1. but the ps1 combat is a dead art. no more adad combat, no more third person, no need to get into the habbit. you need to find a physic/cof based shooter that has the same or close to the same ttk rate as ps2.

that is if you want the combat practice. otherwise any game will do if your working on communications and outfit tactics.

I second Battlefield Bad Company 2. I play every night to stay sharp.

Good point, however if it's large scale war you're looking to practice with, nothing else compares to PS1 except for maybe WW2 Online.

While there is no real comparison, but APB:Reloaded is a good game to play as an organized team. Given, the group size is limited to 4, but still. Also has vehicles in a major role, but just normal cars, so not aircrafts and stuff like that.

If you have no clue what the game is like, I have plenty of footage uploaded from an organized groups PoV. Link is in my signature.

While the game has problems, it's free2play and still pretty much one of the best f2p games around (TF2 doesnt count, personally I dont like it at all anyways ).

Given, APB is also a third person shooter, so won't really train you for an FPS, but still.

Funny you'd suggest that. We (Murder Herd) went really deep in APB the first time around and just starting trying Reloaded a few days ago. The obvious complaint though is the group size.

I third BFBC2. It's not as broken as BF3 and the TTK is roughly where PS2 is aiming at (with PS2 reportedly being designed to be a bit slower than BFBC2).

FPSes:
  1. Counter-Strike PCW or Quake for CQB and reaction time practice.
  2. Battlefield for teamplay (hmmmmmmm) and long-range practice.
Non-FPS:
  1. Lock-on for aircraft practice.
  2. Dawn of War 2 multiplayer for versatility and trust practice.
  3. Random fun game like minecraft or something for teambuilding.
  4. Real-life chess and poker for strategy practice.
  5. Heavy morning exercises for self-discipline practice, body and spirit.

Without any jokes, №7 (discipline, not exercises) is the most important thing, because without discipline there's no way you can keep your head cool in stressing and depressing situations.
Many teams I played with in differrent times usually had a problem maintaining self-control. Thus situations like "You're wrong, I'm right" and "-I'm a leader, you're not! -Prove it!" popped out here and there all the time.

If members of your team respect each other as much as they do themselves and team knows its own limit and tries to exceed it, - then there's no game that you need to practice for, you'll be competitive anytime anywhere.

But all this BS lecture aside, I'm quite sure you were just politely asking for an advice on what to play these days, aren't you?

If that's the case - APB, BF and Crysis 2 MP can do.

if there was any game that even comes near the planetside experience, this forum would only have half of its active population ;-)

that planetside is really unique is the reason why we are here every day to wait for more and drool over every bit of info about our big dream to get the planetside feeling from a modern game ;-)

i read on the net that last year there was a planetside 1 clone called mars war, but it´s already dead and offline again. only the chinese version is still going but i doubt you can get your guild to play a game where they cannot even read any letters or communicate with anybody.

best way to hype would be sending your friends videos of great ps1 action and the new gameplay footage of ps2. then tell them to imagine the epic action from ps1 video with the forgelight graphics power of the ps2 video.

I think any game that is team oriented will help you.

Preferably a military shooter.
