I just hope they find a way to balance the game come live launch.
Rock, Paper, Scissors is not balanced. Rock, Rock, Rock is balanced. The crying about the Lasher still continues in PS1. I know that balancing is one of the more difficult issues PS2 faces. I wish Higgles and crew the best of luck on tackling a very tough issue. We are counting on you Obi-wan-Higgles, you are our only hope. Last edited by Tasorin; 2012-01-26 at 12:56 PM. |

Rock, Rock, Rock is also boring as hell.
I find the only game that should be based on Rock, Paper, Scissors is...well, Rock, Paper, Scissors. I think any MMO that tried to reach such a basic form of balance is doomed for failure. When you have all the elements and variables of a Planetside game, balance is far more delicate than that. |

I agree with Vancha on this one. Rock, Rock, Rock would get tired after only a short time.
If the only difference between the empires is their color, then we lose a major element in gameplay. It is likely impossible to perfectly balance every single vehicle and weapon against each other, but they can be close enough. I can already predict with absolute certainty that balance is something that will be debated hotly when the game is released and likely for the entire lifetime of the game. However, if the only solution is to make everything identical and make PS2 just red vs blue vs purple, I'd prefer a slight situational imbalance. |

I think that the Planetside 2 team will be able to make the game very well-balanced while still making it wonderfully diverse. ~Zachariah |

Lower weapon TTK's will help significantly as well, since it'll be more about positioning, flanking, getting the drop on your opponent, and getting the first shot in, and less about how many tenth's of a second faster your weapon kills than your opponent's.

I don't envy the DEVS trying to balance the weapons and maybe we shouldn't think it is possible to balance an individual class. Think perhaps that TR (HA+AV+MAX)=NC(HA+AV+MAX)=VS(HA+AV+MAX). In PS1 there was a history of making weapons so overpowered that it caused uproar within the playerbase (cloaking phantasm with a gun! BRF's! Lasherprior to current, Dragon). I hope we won't see that in PS2. |
