Gettin a Ti4200

Ok, so I'm planning to get a GeForce 4 Ti4200 w/ 128MB, thing is, there are probably 5 or more kinds of Ti4200's out there. Is there any significant differences between the models that I should be aware of? Is there a version that stands out among the rest? I hope I don't sound a bit excessive, I just want the best deal.

Yes there are differences between them, but nothing major. Some will overclock better than others will if you're looking for that... I'd suggest a ti4400, it really isn't that much more and then you can OC it to ti4600 speeds.

On brand names, I usually go with Gainward.

BFG cards are selling for a dime and a quick shank over at Best Buy these days. This is the group that spawned from the wreckage of VisionTek, however, so beware the fans.

If you really want a good GF4 Ti4200:

http://firingsquad.gamers.com/hardwa...0s/default.asp

It comes clocked at Ti4400 speeds for the core and 4600 speeds for the memory (with room to go HIGHER) and can be found on PriceWatch for $150. Go for it.

(Though frankly an Radeon 9500 PRO is a better choice at this point. Just IMHO.)

Well, now I am looking at 9500 Pros again, and using the same site you reccomended Drake, I found this intresting Sapphire Atlantis 9500 Pro. Problem is, to overclock it, I need to alter the BIOS which results in voiding the warranty. Is it safe to OC it, or is it too risky and I should just leave it as it is?

I'd say to leave it. That is a good card. I wouldn't mess with it, unless you have a performance problem - which I don't think you would.

Ah yes, the Sapphire Atlantis series. Those are quite good, and frankly don't NEED overclocking - they're R300 chipsets, foo. That 9500 PRO will keep up with any Ti 4600 and then some. That and they cost $150. You can't go wrong.

And yes, FiringSquad is a good site. Their hardware reviews are in my experience spot-on, as are their game reviews.

Hey Zatrais, where'd you get your sapphire? I've looked at a bunch of sites, and none of them have the one I'm looking for.

You could get a Radeon 9500 regular, and get the softmods to turn it into a 9500 Pro or 9700. Unfortunately, I haven't gotten my card yet so I can't tell you my own story. As for Sapphire,

Try Newegg.com or googlegear.com
