This is a pet peeve of mine, but I have a problem when games in a futuristic setting just throw in low-tech weapons and such as if they would have a place on the battlefield.
I think I'm a bit more agitated because I just read this great blog on Dust 514: http://www.dust514.com/en/news/?article=3427 At the bottom is a description of one of their knives: "A close-quarters melee weapon, the nova knife is as deadly a weapon as anything on the battlefield. Its name derives from the heated plasma edge of the blade – formed by a thermic igniter and linear gravity condenser – that, in skilled hands, can be used to carve through even the thickest dropsuit armor." THIS is how you design weapons in a sci-fi setting. I don't really care what that rationale is to use a knife on the battlefield, just don't give me a "really sharp knife" and call it a day. Please! |

Agreed...Sort of. I expect the VS will be better, but as far as the TR and NC equipment we've seen so far goes, they seems to have taken very little of the liberties afforded by the sci-fi setting. Don't get me wrong, everything's looking great, but I'm not sure why everything's being made to look quite so "modern". |

Thanks Vancha, I'm glad you understood. Speaking of the NC, I do wish they would play up their salvaged/mining equipment angle more in terms of weaponry. I really wish the NC and TR were more differentiated in general. For instance, why do we need 3 knives? All you really need is a melee weapon, how cool would it be if NC had a futuristic mining hammer like the one from red faction? It's all aesthetics at any rate.

Looks like it could be fun, I just hope they make sure it's not a COD single hit slasher. I mean come on! in the future it has to take some effort to use a knife right? maybe do the BF3 thing of sneaking up on people and stabbing them in the back, but having to fight face to face.
