What I meant was that you won't have the thing that everyone reports a player because he have been killing some (cr5) too many times.

It's not just that. It's several people/outfits doing it just because they don't "like" the person or just because they want to...

Regardless, it's a stupid idea. Simple.

It won't happen anyways, so why bother discussing?

The closest we MIGHT ever see is that some people get "special flagging rights" or that their reports about players weight more to GMs than some random Joes report. Even then, the GM and the GM alone would do the observing and final decision, but just that if the GM has one report from RandomJoe3 and one from SuperModeratorCoreldan, he is more likely to prioritize SuperModeratorCoreldan's report

But I doubt we'd see even that.

All i have to say is if esea, a company with a fraction of the manpower to code an AC can make one that's incredible, there's no reason that any developer can't. They're just lazy as fuck. Developing an AC takes time and unfortunately, time is money.

esea can do it because for them, the ac IS the money. It's the only reason esea exists.

If you want to get some esea proof cheats, you need to a. know people and b. be willing to shell out at least 400-500$, and even then there's a good chance they will get detected in a few months or so. And for the skilled individuals that can reverse engineer it and get around the ac to code proofed cheats, a coproration such as sony should really have little to no trouble, ESPECIALLY that they are developing the engine with it. They have ZERO limitations to how deep they can go to detect cheats if they integrate it with the engine.

So yes, it just comes down to sony's laziness and if they truly wanted to make a hacker free (or minimal) experience, they can.

I find it quite amusing that you assume they ONLY use punkbuster.

I have no idea what I just read...

ESEA? AC?

On another note: How do you know that sony isn't implementing their own anti-cheat/inject tool and only use punkbuster to identify and sort out the "average joe"-cheats?

I'm sure Sony and educated game developers knows what suits their product best. Afterall it's a product they're selling, they need to maintain cost efficiency even after a long period of time.

Your so called "super hacks" will still be there no matter how many resources SOE puts in against it. Spending 500000$ or 10000$ to stop a few scriptkiddies - I know what I would use if i was the one in charge for the game development.

For those that don't know, ESEA is the E-Sports Entertainment Association. They have their own anti-cheat system, leaderboards, and all that stuff. One thing I would like to correct about what Justin has stated though, is that their anti-cheat isn't that much better than PunkBuster or VAC.

You can't stop hackers. The more difficult you make it to cheat, the higher the demand these cheats will have, as well as a higher price these hackers can slap on their cheats once they finally make them. So obviously many hacking communities will work together no matter how long it takes as long as there is an interest in the game, and there is no way around this aside from maybe making most of the stuff server-side (judging from WoW and other MMOs) so it checks for any changes (although that's not impossible to get around either).

In the end, we will never be able to fully prevent cheating (especially because it's a free-to-play game, and people can just remake accounts with little punishment). The only thing we can do is hope they try their best to stay updated on hackers and cheats using PunkBuster and whatever other anti-cheats they decide to incorporate (which I don't doubt that they will, since they have a five year after-launch plan), as well as provide players an easy and reliable way to report suspected cheaters.

This, in my opinion, is the biggest problem that Planetside 2 will face for being a F2P game, but I don't doubt SOE has a plan to counter it.

EDIT: Reading up on the Forgelight engine, it seems that the developers are very assured that hacking will not be an issue with this engine. I hope they're right, and I trust them because they'll be making Everquest on this engine as well in the future.

I have played a LOT of games with PB in them, and in pretty much all of them it causes issues. In Crysis it caused all servers to crash about once per day; in most of the Battlefield games it would kick people for losing key packets; in Bf3 it kicks people for all sorts of arbitrary reasons but seems to be largely ineffective against hackers.

Punkbuster also tends to introduce all sorts of compatibility issues with third party overlays and ends up kicking and banning honest players, while doing nothing to stop more advanced hacks.

There has to be a better alternative.

I don't understand why they would even consider Punkbuster if it causes so many problems for so many players, unless there was absolutely no alternative available to them. There has got to be alternatives.

This comment thread on reddit needs to be brought to attention:

http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment...dustry/c43t2b9

Someone mentioned hardware keys. I'd like to here from the devs what they have available to them, and why they chose PB knowing it has such a poor reputation.

This comment is basically what I'm thinking: http://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comment...dustry/c43uin9

If you're able to speedhack in Planetside 2 then the devs should be punched in the face. Stuff like that will be serverside. You can't exploit that. And unless said cheater is retarded, you can't tell he's cheating just by looking at him. So no, you're wrong. Sorry.

VAC really seems like the best idea, but they said there might be some issues with getting it out on Steam. Hopefully they can figure that out, because I think Steam would make the game visible to a lot of players.

I personally think VAC is equally shit. Just as bypassable. Although I give it that it has less problems with updating and so on, even if I've personally had very little issues with PB ever and the games I've played the most have been using PB too.
