PS2 Instant Messenger

Everquest used to have a standalone program that you could download and through it, you could chat with people who were in-game as well as others on EQIM. You could send tells I know, I do not remember if it allowed you to talk in your guild chat or not.

But, wouldn't that be good for PS2? The ability to send/receive tells and monitor outfit chat? Especially for wi-fi or other mobile devices, iphones or whatever; be great for keeping an eye on what's going on throughout the day and then when you get home from work, you have a good idea where you'll be needed.

Would not be surprised if we see that the devs have talked about social media integration this would go along with that.

Yea...I'm already thinking about how I'd rather access this from an iphone than try to use it on my computer at work, companies these days keep tight track of personal internet use!

I loved how EVE had a browser that you could use to chat with people on MSN and social networks. I hope SOE does something like this. Not having to log off to talk to friends that dont play the game is a great way to keep playing.

It's a separate program, requiring you to hound your outfit members, and anyone else you want to talk to, to sign up for it.

I see what you mean though.

Maybe the devs could pick a program of this type to officially interact with? Maybe even Overwolf itself, since Overwolf in turn interacts with Skype and all that other stuff?

And of course, by officially interact, I mean to the extent that signing up for PS2 automatically signs you up for Overwolf(or whatever they go with).

I like this idea and I'm sure they have plans for something like this. Personally I don't know how many times I missed a tell in PS1. Then trying to scroll up and getting shanked by a cloaker.

There was a recent interview where Matt and TRay were answering questions from Reddit. There was a question about Steam and TRay was hinting at what I could only assume is a new version of the Station Launcher which hasn't been announced yet. Through that new Station Launcher I would assume it not only has an Instant Messaging program, but also has TeamSpeak 3, Ventrilo, and Mumble integration; well TeamSpeak 3 at least.

See, that's the thing - if you have to beg and yell at squadmates or outfit mates to go register for Teamspeak, and then EVERY TIME hound them to join the channel and move to the channel for your squad, that sucks. But if the game is integrated with it, Teamspeak could be made viable, because surely they could find a way that joining a squad could automatically open TS and move you into the channel(can be customized per player so that this doesn't happen if you are for some reason a VOIP hater).

The Station Launcher doesn't exist anymore, so hopefully we'll see a new and vastly superior type of program from SOE.
