Thought it would be interesting to take a stroll down memory lane. My original set up for planet side was a 1.3ghz Sony vaio, but it wasn't until I upgraded to a GeForce ti4800 and a whopping 256mb of ram that I could play the game at playable framerates. What was your first planet side rig?

I don't even know the specs of my first really but I think it was a low end p4 with integrated graphics. Next was a high clocked P4 with a 6800 GT. I consider that my first ps computer due to only playing ps for a month and came back later with the one above. Was a great computer for the time I think.

2.4ghz Cellron, FX5600, 512 of RAM? Certainly playable but not amazing.
Bumped up to a 2.8ghz P4 northwood at some point, maybe more ram too. Eventually upgraded to a 6800 or 7800 perhaps I had both at some point, I can't recall? I can't quite remember when I went to the Athlon 64, but I know it had the 7800 for a while until I put a 275GTX in it. It's probably chronicled on these forums way back.

I went through four myself. The two pentiums, Athlon X2 4200 w/ 7900 GT, to a E8400 w/ 8800 GTS 512 G92. That was from 2004 to 2008.

1.4 GHz Athlon (dual core)
512 MB DDR2 RAM Radeon 9600 w/ 128 MB DDR3 VRAM I kept that machine going for many years, until upgrading to my current rig. Phenom II X4 @ 3.2 GHz 8 GB DDR3 RAM Radeon HD 6850 w/ 1GB DDR5 VRAM I've got the processor undervolted, the RAM is underclocked and loosely timed, and the GPU came with a mild overclock from the factory. It's fast enough for my needs and never crashes. |
