Being more open and haveing more capture points should cause players to use more tactical game play. Myself I am one for varity and only haveing 2 or 3 mods for bases will get old real quick but from what i have seen it looks like alot of varity will be in the game. |

I like the fact that not all AMP stations (or any base for that matter) are created equal. Some may have walls, others might be more open ...both will have strategic advantages and disadvantages so base assault/defense doesn't become "rinse-and-repeat"

I'm not quite sure that full around PS1 walls are really necessary, and I think that it might add to the gameplay to be without them. Walls are a barrier that create two generic choke points and cause stalemates. Overall, they are bland and make the fighting around every base the same. Instead of a boring courtyard system, the bases in Planetside 2 have outlying perimeter defenses (those buildings on the outskirts of the base), then an area closer to the base, and finally an infantry-only area mostly inside. This makes base defense more about the placement of armor, use of air superiority to move forward, and daring flanking assaults on attackers. In short, the lack of walls will make combat more dependent on tactics and use of the terrain. I am basing this off of the AMP station, being the only base type we have seen in detail. The style of the bases seem much more realistic, instead of a medieval "Defend the walls!" type of combat.

Whoah. Smed, if you're not going to let Higby out of the office can you at least bring in a razor and pillow for the poor guy?
Also, I saw one in the office there. Makes me wonder what Smed has to say about PS2 beta. |
