Hell, if they are trying a PC title that says enough itself that they aren't stuck lock and key into more casual games. Be hopeful! Getting these players means success for PS2!! And the game will speak for itself and convert many into new fans!

Good. Sounds like the console crowd is getting tired with the same old same old and want something new and different. My only hope is that the developers don't feel the need to make PS2 more like one of their games so that they feel like they fit in and instead make the game they've been planning all along. BF3 tried to do this and it turned out terribly. Then again, PS2 devs seem a lot smarter than the airheads running all the EA studios these days.

It's only a good thing for console games to join in the action. Not only does it help the game's (and genre's) success, but everyone gets to have tons of fun. And for the cynics who don't want them "polluting" their environment, just think of all the extra targets there will be running around.
The last thing this game needs is an elitist community that lashes out at people who finally show interest. Let's be mature and decent, shall we? |

Well if it PS2 did that all by itself OP, yes it'd be something. I also hang out on the escapist though and it's mostly young kids there on consoles. Lately, just in general, I have been seeing a huge uptick in the number of "help me build a computer" threads and PC gaming threads.
I think it's just that point in the cycle where current consoles are old and tired, devs are tired of working with 7 year old hardware and looking at the PC more, and planets are just in alignment for the pendulum to swing back the other way. Either way, if PS2 manages to capitalize on that, more power to it. I'm still a little sceptical on whether or not it's just gonna fall off like PS1 did. |

Just watched the video, nice to see other people out there that know what their talking about. Personally I love watching the cod players waste their money buying the same game year after year. They are being milked and it's funny and it keeps the kiddies out of the games that are actually evolving and worth buying. Too bad in the end it's going to hurt everyone because the big publishers are making money off of it which is going to allow them to produce more bullshit that no one cares about and water down the industry as a whole.

If you want to change casual gamer behavior, you show them what they have been missing. Casual gamers play easy games like CoD because they either don't have the necessary time to invest into becoming good or they legitimately don't know better. We've all been there in one hobby or another: you're content eating bland food until someone shows you how to add seasonings, then you never go back; You're content reading Where the Sidewalk Ends until someone introduces you to Wuthering Heights or The Great Gatsby; You're content watching Bleach until you find out about Cowboy Bebop.
This can only work on the latter subset of casual gamers I described before. Once they are introduced to a "classic" they can never go back to their shallow products as their main interest within that hobby because it simply doesn't satisfy them. These casual gamers now realize that they can be satisfied so much more by following the "hardcore" fans' interests, and from that they become hardcore fans at a full moon; complete with fur, claws, and sharp teeth. Simply put, show them Planetside 2 and more of these casual players will take the time to learn how to play Planetside 2 than you think. When they play CoD again, they will realize something is missing. CoD's shallow depth just isn't satisfying them anymore, and from there they will begin their journey as a hardcore gamer. Anything that gets people to broaden their horizons is a good thing. More people discovering Planetside 2 is a good thing. Sure to many of you vets a lot of noobs from CoD or Halo or BF might dilute the waters but hey give them time and they'll mingle in right with you.

Also... PS I tihnk has been the only FPS game where players actually take the time to teach newbies the game. Granted in other FPS games you don't really need a teacher as they're pretty straight forward :P
My point is; treat lost "CoD kids" the same way and they'll love the game even more, and as a result they wont troll it. There's bound to be some bad apples, as there always are... but those guys are nothing but targets to be put down... over and over again.
