i think a mentor system within Planetside 2 would really help integrate new players by matching them up with original PS vets (or those who have kept up to date on all PS2 mechanics).
New players would be rewarded for following their mentor, with XP rewards when objectives are completed together. The XP given should be proportional to how close they are together,100% when within 10m, 50% within 20m etc. Originally, I anticipated rewarding the mentor with small amounts of CEP, but from what I understand, Command Ranks are unlocked with certs... so I think the only option is to also reward the mentor with XP. This would be a separate system to the squad/platoon/outfit, and would stack with squad bonus XP. There would be a minimum BR requirement for the Mentor, and a maximum BR for the protégé. Exploiting it by having your mate as a mentor just for the bonus XP would be forbidden, and the way I can a method around this is by matching a mentor with his protégé based upon a number of criteria, such as physical location (no language barrier) and current certification choices. Thoughts? |

They made the mission system to help new people out with getting a grip on the game. No need for any Mentor and uh... protégé. That would be just weird and kinda annoying on both sides having someone matched up to you and having to learn/show how everything works, especially in a F2P game.
People should be smart enough to figure things out on there own. |

Yeah I'm not so hot on this one; at it's core, this game is a shooter -- plane and simple shooter. If you want to be a good pilot or a good tanker or whatever, there are plenty of chances for you hooking up with an outfit, playing with various players in squads/platoons, and there most likely will be a training simulator like in the original planetside that will take you through some "basic training." Also the whole proximity thing...sounds like a recipe for a lot of enemy lib kills...
