What the hell are they whining about?

Can you summarize cracker? Is bottom line they dnot' like him because he is competitive FPS player?

I love him already. We come from CAL and TWL. One thing I have learned about this community it is mostly full of people who are not that good of an FPS player. They can't compete on the CAL and TWL stage so they go to an FPS game that relies more on team work and massive organization. So what the fuck are these people going to do when the great FPS players come over here and get organized?

Why do they need to announce development team hires in the community forums anyways? Have one Project Lead Deveoper that is a good people person and let him hog the spotlight while the rest of the team is locked away in cages until the game is done.

Hard to argue with. Unless it is a marketing technique. Any pub is good pub. I'm sure they knew what the reaction would be and it keeps people active and engaged. Albeit, most of the active and engaged people, as far as that topic, were the same that were picked last in kick ball growing up and then went to play tag where they could hid behind a tree and talk about being sneaky and organized while all the "athletes" played kick ball. It is the same now, we are all just older. Cyber athletes (athletes used loosely but you get my point) play competitive games in TWL, CAL, and CPL while everyone else (The tag players) play a game where skill didn't matter that much and they yell and scream how there game is better because they have to think. Until of course one of the athletes comes to play tag and chases them all down.

It's quite simple actually... have you ever seen the credits in games? Every one wants to be recognized for their work. The last thing you want on ANY development team is a "butt hurt" developer. Keep them happy and the quality of code rises and they meet deadlines (Management 101).

If you don't believe that, then look at the huge hordes of hard-core FPS players that are going to dive in to PS2. For the most part I only play FPS games -- I cringed when I heard the word "MMOFPS" because it has the letters "MMO" -- but I'll be playing PS2. If you bring a FPS player into the game, you can make sure that the game is balanced for hard-core FPS AND casual gamers.

I resemble that statement...

It's a niche game... I honestly had never heard of planetside until recently so as far as I'm concerned it didn't do well in the market. As with any niche product, there is a cult following... and as we all know, rocking a cult's boat is like poking a lion in the eye with a stick. It doesn't end well for anyone.

I don't know what kind of tag you were playing, but as a "strategic thinker" myself, I never had to move much in tag. Never watch the "tagger", watch the people that are running from the "tagger"... or my favorite... form alliances and hire body guards.

I disagree. It's like when they banned dunking in basketball because more athletic players were owning the game. The purist "cult following" thought it would ruin the game. And I guess it did if you were white and non athletic. Or the guys picked last at the recess pick up game.

Or when they though the passing game would ruin football. They thought the wing t was the only way to go and it would ruin the game. And I guess it did if you where the big white guy that ran slow and plowed over people.

So, I'm sure the game has its purist and "cult" following. But they will either learn to adapt or go find another game where their lack of pure skills will allow them to be successful in their own way.

I wasn't disagreeing with you... I was merely providing insight into their whining...
