The 'artwork' idea is pretty terrible. It would just get abused and trolled.

There is no AMS, nor are there any plans.

Different manned turrets are already in the game. Along with mines and spitfire turrets.

The only idea that has any merit is the field artillery, but I imagine that is already going to be covered with the smaller 'OS' types. Which have been described as small artillery strikes.

Did you see spits in E3, or was that in an interview? I'm kind of hoping they aren't in to be honest... or if they are, they're limited to 1 per person and decon when you die. We don't need 1000 engineers dropping 20 spitfires each... ugh.

I really like the idea, or at least something like it. I like the idea of players being able to specialize in making grand strategy decisions and commands, I hope this is supported.

Negative on the rank 3 and 4 command stuff -- that will get trolled waaaaay too much (I should know -- the military's BFT's are a classic example); and ignoring players as a solution will only decrease cooperation.

Artillery has been discussed in several threads already; just do a simple search, they're very much there and with a lot more detail -- on that note also, I would say go opposite -- NO lazing; it's basically an instant kill ability.

It's called defense. Instead of everyone running around randomly like chickens with their heads cut off Call of Duty.

But you're for the OS I bet, where you push an I-win button and insta-kill.

Lazing requires the forward observer to put themselves in harms way, and requires cooperation with the guy shooting the artillery.

What I'm talking about is what you were talking about. But I shall elaborate so as to not confuse you about what you said earlier, rather than you just looking back at what you wrote:

Rank 3: Draw on map all in "zone" can see it
Rank 4: Draw on map all on continent can see it.

How do you not see this being a huge spam/troll issue? Just go play ps1 for a bit and watch all the CR5's act like little kids in the global chat (probably cause a lot of them are).

Oh and before you make assumptions maybe try to understand the concepts being discussed. I am actually not for OSing, for the exact same reason I'm not for lazing targets. Again I don't know how you can't see the issue here, so I guess I'll explain: If you've got an arty guy and a spotter working together it's a lot diff in video games than irl. Spotter lazes a target (big spammy spam kill zone) arty pieces lock on to where to shoot, bam bam bam, target gets fried; not too unlike an OS in reality. If you remove the ability to laz targets (essentially giving the arty guys a "click here to kill enemies" function) then your arty guys have to ACTUALLY communicate with their teammates on the front lines to direct the fires, and arty actually becomes a skill, rather than the aforementioned "easy button."

EDIT: And on "lazing requires being in harms way." No, it really doesn't. Again, go play ps1 and show me the laz guys that get lit up. Doesn't happen often, not at all.

Re: skill ideas

Wouldn't need a laser designation if they implemented a grid system on the map, I.E. latitude and longitude with a way for observers to give accurate grid coordinates, such as 8 digit or 10 digit coordinates. The artillery would then enter it on a computer etc and adjust from there. Might discourage play though, because anytime people have to do maths, even simplistic math it tends to discourage play accept for the hardcore.

The grid idea is a pretty solid one. As for the maths part, that's part of being an artilleryman (13 series and 11c for the army types). If you're in grid C11 and you get word that there's targets and they want ffe immediately in grid D15, all you have to do is quickly figure out the general direction you need to be pointed, adjust elevation as needed (all of which can be figured out beforehand), and call rounds out.

I was a 13f in the army so it is second nature to me, but this is a game and fun factor comes into play. If it gets to complicated or too realistic it quickly becomes boring. I wouldn't mind a system like this as I like complicated play, but for others it would be an issue.

Nobody ever uses the laze though.

You fisters are cool dudes. Sometimes lol. It won't need to be super intense math or anything -- you just figure "From grid xyz [gun battery] to grid abc [target] is ~ 500 meters. That means I need to fire at ~70º to hit it. Cool."

If you are working with some kind of FO they can let u know "hey you hit 40 meters short, increase range" etc.... This also makes it a non-insta kill thing too cause as soon as a salvo comes in that doesn't kill then the enemy (if they're smart) will move -- kinda like the bolt driver from ps1, had to hit 'em twice, so if they didn't immediately move, tough shit for them.

You could also add a printable pdf/whatever document available on the website that gives the various distances and the angles needed. It's not quite point-click-kill easy, but it's also not stupid geometry difficult either; basically it requires some work and some thought but it's not beyond a 5th grader.

@Talek Krell true though this may be, it's just in PS1 at the moment (and I do OCCASIONALLY see a laze, but you're right not very often at all).
