CPU/Chipset PS2

Based on the video card posts I feel confident my GTX550TI will run PS2 without much issue but I've heard that MMO's are also very dependent the processor performance. I'm running:

Core2 Quadcore 2.83 GHz Q9550
ASUS GTX 550TI
4MB DDR2 800

Can some of the tech savvy PSU members explain how the processor and RAM affect MMO/PS2 play or is it all about the video card? What processors are you guys running for PS2?

It's a bit of both really... hard to tell what PS2 will be primarily dependant on given that it's a new engine there is nothing to compare it to... it really could go either way or both will be in demand, with so much going on in such a vast distance I can see some heavy CPU utilisation needing to happen, but it looks so graphically intensive GPU's are also going to be utilised a lot..

I suspect you should be able yo play it at low settings on that rig... your GPU is not bad, but your CPU seems a little under par, TBH I suspect your CPU is dragging down your GPU performance... but I know if you wanted to upgrade you would need almost a complete new rig unless you can find some sweet deal on a 2nd hand LGA775 CPU...

time will tell when we actually know what it requires...

I would imagine that PS2 is optimized for 2 cores to be used maybe 3. Your ram being DDR2 might lose you a few FPS but 4 gig is pretty decent as long as your not running Vista. Windows 7 or XP would be helpful in having only 4 gigs of DDR2 Ram. I would say your Video card seems like it should be fine with 1gb DDR5 ram.

It has been said on numerous posts that Planetside2 being F2P has spec'ed the game to run well on Lower end machines. Having big open environments in Planetside 2 will require more from your cpu. I would say you should be ok on low to mediumish, best advice install it and try it out, adjust some settings it is F2P.

For reasonable frame rates your CPU power you MUST be above the 'minimum' (you cant turn down the vehicle physics ect..) but being a lot over the minimum wont necessarily help a lot. From what I gather a Q9550 should be OK (I am using one atm so i really do hope so).

The only upgrade for 775 is the QX9650 which is just a slight ghz bump and overclock unlock, not worth an upgrade from Q9550.

With Graphics you need to support the required APIs (DX9, DX10, DX11 ect..) but after that you can keep turning things down to get to an FPS that is OK. (At some point the settings could be so low as you render the game unplayable or hurt the experience more than low fps; 640x480 res anyone?)
