Personally I'm ok with prone as long as there is a realistic time required to get into and out of it. Going into it your accuracy should be wildly off for about 2 seconds, and getting back up should take about 3 seconds (think about the weight of all of your gear and your weapon occupying your hands) before you can fire or move again.

Uhh yeah, you got me there....
I know that tweet. And of course they're looking into it, being the awesome devs they are. Still, my point stands. They didn't consider prone an option until some lengthy discussions on forums, e.g. here. And consequently they didn't build the game around it. Any gameplay video I've seen, artificial cover was built around hip- to shoulder-height and there were hardly any open spaces where infantry would have to rely on prone to take cover. Accessible roofs had low walls around the edges where prone would be absolutely pointless if you wanted to see, let alone shoot anything. So thanks for proving me wrong - not. Don't get me wrong tho, I don't care if prone is in or not. I don't like it, and I probably won't use it as it doesn't fit my playstyle, but I have no issues with other people using it. |

So I have said it just in case. So that no one can state we didnt told that some stuff would be overpowered. I can imagine it. No one did and then Engineers are suddenly overpowered with some tactics. I know exploiting the Gameengine to its maximum is skill too, but this one was simply to obvious. |

i can understand the plus and minus sides of the prone issue, and why the developers didnt put it in.
from my understanding developers want: - a fast paced infantry combat (constant moving) -less camping than prone COULD or possibly would allow/promote - infiltrators can go invisible.....whats the point of laying down to pretend you are invisible -light assault are meant for mobility (jetpacks...) crawling would defeat the point of that mobility -combat medics i could sort of understand prone for since they are suppossed to be behind the other infantry. BUT they are given guns that work just as well as the other classes' and so this would create, literally, a class for dolphin diving. Last edited by Duskguy; 2012-08-08 at 06:14 PM. |

re read my post. there was not a single shred of complaint. simply possible reasons of why the developers didnt want prone. i personally think of it as a tactic being that i started online multiplayer gaming with BF2. but the developers want people moving and getting into the fight...i assume.

In the end the gameplay is mobil enough anyways.
Now... slowly but surely I get what you mean with "dolphine diving". Im not really someone who played Egoshooters in the way I will when I play Planetside2 - with companions! Seriously why did all of you people pretended you are just interested in the fast movement when you are just halfwhining here all the time. Something felt off and thats it. You think it will be unbalanced because you can fall down fast and rise fast as well, right? In a way that wouldnt be possible with a real body. Then we just have to balance this as well. + You can throw yourself on the ground very fast but standing up takes 1,5 seconds (with animation) and heavy-Aussault and Engineer (with turret) needs 2 seconds. + If you go done while standing it takes you 1,5 seconds. + When you dropped yourself forcefully, just 0,8 sec ( while walking/running and not while standing ), your vision will shake accordingly and you have to position your weapon, takes another second. + When you crawl, you can slowly advance and slowly turn in another direction (like driving a vehicle). + You can roll sideways to evade stuff (similar like sprinting) but your sight will spin around, of course. ^ balanced!! Now you have a real body on the ground with all its disadvantages. |
