Signatures?

I know what they are, but I can't see mine when I look at my past posts. I converted it to a jpg, shrunk it to 500x200, and uploaded it under the "Edit Signature" tab on my profile. Are you not suppose to see your own signature? Also, do you have to post the picture in the text box to have both the picture and the text?
