Question Not sure whether to be grateful or hateful?

Before you read this, note that I think Ps2 is one of the best FPS I played in a long time, just to avoid any confusion.

I used to play Battlefield 3 - lots and lots of Battlefield 3, it's a great game, you can't deny that. And I was pretty darn good at it as well: Was 63rd rank, 1st-5th place all most every round, was in a gaming community and other fun stuff like that, but everything changed when the Planetside 2 beta came out.

The thing that probably drew me in most was the amount of people per server, those things always do (Arma, Battlefield, Operation Flashpoint and such). I think when I first had the chance to play the beta, I played it for 6 hours or more, really enjoyed it, even changed my play style completely. Used to be a medic on Bf3 and sucked at Recon/Infiltrator, but in Ps2 I suck at being a Medic and now I can actually kill somebody with Infiltrator/Recon.

When the beta was closed for a day or so, I thought I'd play some Bf3, you know, MLG 360 n0 scope some newbs with the medic... But I didn't. I couldn't even play the game for more than 20 minutes. The reason was not, cause I started to suck at it or anything like that, oh no no. The game itself became so dull, so boring, so everything else, that could be wrong with any game, that I couldn't make myself play it anymore. I actually got bored of Bf3 completely.

Well, it looks like I'm dumping Bf3 moving to Ps2 for good.
So I'm not sure whether to ┬─┬ノ( º _ ºノ) or to (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ ?

Anways, sorry for any grernmar mistakes I might of left. And I was wondering, if anybody had the same experience with Ps1 or Ps2, like I did?

PS1 already did that for me in many ways. After PS1, I would always say, "This arena / deathmatch shooter is fun and well-polished, but every battle is a contrived situation with narrow scope and scale in the bigger picture."

After having played many of the new upcoming FPS games (like Rekoil and MWO) I have to say that the general FPS multiplayer genre has been stuck in the late 1990s but got some graphics and physics upgrades along the way. PlanetSide 2 is really one of the few attempts to bridge the gap between the fun and action of FPS crossed with the persistent open-world aspects of an MMO, without sacrificing any features that belong in a modern FPS aside from prone and lean (which we can do without for now). Compared to PS1, which had limited physics, and only BFRs had hitboxes, PS2 is the achievement of the ambitious dream that PS1 set out to fulfill.

My brother even noticed how frivolous little 8v8, 16v16, even 64v64 battles are compared to a war going on across an entire integrated continent. He also appreciates that there is a niche for any and every player, as he's not really a FPS player (3 months of UT3 is the last he really played, and that was a few years ago) but he can swat down air with a Skyguard like a pro in less than a week of playing PS2.

Being free to play also helps. Population issues won't be a concern. Cheaters will be, but with vigilant reporting and in-game GM support, cheaters both blatant and sneaky should be able to be caught relatively quickly. Compared to a game like Combat Arms, where $100 will let you run circles around enemies with weapons it'll take them over a year to earn, there is no possible way to truly buy power in PS2.

So yeah. For me, PS1 got it started, PS2 finished it off. Modern FPS games mostly suck in comparison to PS2, and the features they have over PS2 do nothing to alleviate their massive limitations and lack of scope or coherency between fights. Instead of fighting over the same destructible crate and exploding barrel warehouse, or even fighting through the same 5-map campaign time and time again, I'd rather hold Allatum and push on towards Dahaka with whatever conditions friendlies and enemies make along the way. Same terrain, but the conditions will always change, and it is always a part of the overall goal of turning the world purple.

One of us one of us gooble gobble gooble gobble.

Nerotoxin is correct, we got bit by this same bug back in PS1. You'll slowly start to mutate now and your play style in FPSs will probably change. For myself it's manifested as a dislike of traditional gameplay and a desire to constantly make use of under powered and typically useless elements and still win. It also has generated an intense desire for teamwork.
