New Player Experience Community Initiative

Ok folks currently we have a new player experience problem here. Because of launch being so early there might not be a chance for a developer based better version of a new player experience. So as a community that wants this game to succeed i am making a suggestion and a request. On launch day and for the first 2-3 days i will be going to warp gate and making this shout.

"To all new players if you are looking for assistance and a mentor please send a tell by typing /t feartheamish. Once you do this i will invite you to my platoon/squad. you can accept this by hitting Y when it comes up or home and then clicking on accept. We will be going over the basics of How to play the game and how to survive"

I will be doing this at the Indar warpgate on w/e east server my outfit goes to. Reason i am asking this of any experienced member of the community is we need to foster new player experiences and help these folks out. Also i will be using this as a chance to recruit to my outfit (so not totally charity =)). Other Outfit officers and leaders think of this as a great chance to increase your numbers as well as help out the game as a whole. Hope to see others doing the same.

so how in particular are you going to be running the instruction? Its not a bad idea however, just curious if you have a plan.

Except that I am just kidding when you are dead serious about being negative ever since you joined the forums.

Just wanted to point it out for those who have not read your post history.

EVE has corporations (outfits) that exist entirely to educate new pilots (players). Some people come back as "instructors". Everyone is given mentorship, and are tasked with ops and missions with experienced players holding their hands as appropriate, depending on the pupil's experience level. Someone should create a Planetside University outfit on each faction.

My plan is to get squad going (if i get more officers in outfit a platoon). Once squad is full we will go over. how to set your ingame mic volume, the UI, All the buttons in the escape menu, How to read the map and find action, Basic Certs that will help, (then we will go to a base close to warp gate were i will fly a gal), what to look for in an enemy base and how to cap/destroy it, And a quick introduction to squad tactics and how to survive in combat. So i will do about a squad an hour then have them redeloy to warp gate (or stay if they like) show them how to join a squad then start a new one.

Actually this was were i got the idea from used to play EVE and was an instructor in EVEU for awhile. Also love how you all will complain about an issue but wont do anything about it yourself. Common PS community put your money(time) were your mouth is.

To be honest, you are trying to help and it's great. On the other hand, we (as players and customers) should not be in a situation where we have to compensate for SOE's lack of adequate mechanic. Especially when it's not Beta anymore.

It's cool if players decide to help new players. It's not cool when the game relies on them to do it. Similarly, it's ok to blame someone for something. It's not ok to blame them for something they are not responsible for.

Here, let me help and be constructive:
what about creating "player GMs" who are liable to offering a service to new players and are paid with Station Cash ?

Go ahead and break this idea down or adore its glory ! But in the end, never forget that at the source of all things PS2, SOE is the master and creator.

i agree it is in the hands of SOE to have done this or something better for themselves, Also i can understand why people wouldn't want to do this. Its gonna be a pain in the @$$ for a few days. (also my comment was more of a common so many people make posts about how they wuvvv PS and want it to be strong lend a hand then). So if no one else is interested that is fine and i understand why people wouldn't be jumping for joy to do it. I just see it as a way for medium - small outfits to get a large pool of new members and train them up to quality players. Also it will help the community as a whole.

And oh god i am starting to sound like Duke......

I hope this comment wasn't directed at me. Because I would do plenty if I could play the game right now.

Great idea!! As with all online games (especially new MMOs) it is important to be strong and helpful as a community since a good community is what helps make a successful MMO. Of course there will always be the bad-mouthed, bad-mannered player, but if we can maintain a strong community then PS2 shall be even greater.

This is now especially important since PS2 is a f2p game. There will most likely be tons of kids and other people running around having no idea what to do so we should help them to maintain a strong playerbase. Lets make this one of the best MMOs ever everyone!!

It was exactly this in Eve that inspired me for this idea.
