TR Light Assault Guidance?

I've been playing for a good while and I've managed to get along quite well in my Terran Republic Light Assault career; I'm getting a decent level of kills, taking out objectives pretty well, and I've even managed to land myself into a nice little outfit. But I still feel like I'm missing something.

There are many questions that I still have about my specific race and class (TR Light Assault), its capabilities and faults, its weapons, and how to set it up.

Question 1: I've been under the impression that Light Assault specializes in infantry combat, and that it is formidable in a face to face fight even though its jump jet advantage should be used to reach vantage points and be sneaky. On the other hand, people seem to act like light assault is weak in face to face encounters and should run from them. I don't know who to believe, though I stand my ground if someone gets the jump on me and I still manage to get out alive. Am I doing it wrong?

Question 2: In specific, as a TR LIGHT ASSAULT, which weapon should I equip, and with what attachment? I've been deciding between the Trac-5 S, assuming that due to its wide range of attachment capabilities I could make it extremely powerful; the LC2 Lynx, for its high rate of fire and up-close killing capabilites, and the normal Trac-5. You know, because it's free and seems to work pretty well.

Question 3: How should I set up my loadout? Drifter Jump Jets or normal? Nanoweave armor or advanced shields? C4 or medkits? etc.

Again, I've been playing for a while; since beta actually. I've had these questions for quite some time and I keep getting unreliable answers from most people I ask. I appreciate your feedback and hopefully in the end this will make me a better soldier to serve my faction

I play vanu, but this advice should apply

1) It can be both, really. YOu probably have little chance at going toe to toe with a decent HA, but the classes are balanced enough to give you a decent chance. I prefer flanking, as the jump jets allow you to reach places people won't look.

2) Can't really answer this one, but I assume TRAC for sneaky long range, and Lynx if you want to get up in someones grill.

3) Haven't played with different jets since beta, but i'd definitively roll shields if you go for the sneak play. Being able to hide and regen quicker is always nice. I'd roll with an injector if you play long range, and c4 if you go close. Being light assault allows yo to c4 tanks from above, as well as set traps for maxes.

Good luck.

Pro tip, if you can sneak up there, there is a ledge on all the towers on the top (roof) floor where you can jet up. Great place, routinely gets you 4-5 kills before being spotted.

2) The LYNX with a forward grip is good for most situations, a lot of people prefer the advanced red dot but the true beauty of that weapon is the ability to strafe quickly while aiming down it's sights. Iron-sights and Reflex 1x are good for this.

Next up would be the default TRAC-5. The TRAC-5 S may look tempting with all those fancy attachments but you pay for them with a reduced rate of fire and that's most important benefit our carbines have.

I don't play LA myself that much but from outfit chat the ones who do really love playing with c4, everyone once in awhile you'd always here across mumble "at last I got my c4 back, oh baby how I've missed you"

for the weapon attachments I'd always get the reflex scope x1 or x2 over Iron sights any day, my biggest beef with iron is they take away a huge amount of your visibility when in scope mode.
For me I try to have forward grips on all my guns, with it counter acting the horizontal pull all you need to do is push down with the mouse while firing to control the vertical.
Just my style.

Ah... I've always wondered what it meant by "High Mobility in all firing positions"...

Eh... I wouldn't be so sure...

From the looks of the attachments, it seems that the "S" is able to switch between the close range murder hose of the Lynx and the mid-range marksmanship of the AMC...

...Plus it's the only one with Under-barrel attachments.

As for Palerion's questions:

1)
Hard to say man...
On paper our Carbines aren't nearly as good as the Medic's Assault Rifles or the Heavy's LMGs, plus they both have special abilities that should help them survive longer...
Still... a lot can be said for vertical mobility in an FPS, and coupled with a bit of Atypical thinking it can be VERY deadly...

...I'm a bit of a Mediocre shooter player myself, so I mostly role LA, if simply because of the cross compatibility with the Engineer.

2)
The answer is obvious: SHOTGUN!!!

Ok, seriously, all are decent weapons.
I've honestly not been able to tell the difference between the Lynx and the S, having got the former in a bundle and the latter because I named my Beta Grenade Launcher Mr. Boom.
Really, you are probably better off just using the default Trac-5...

Though I'm not kidding about shotguns being a good investment, they eat face in close quarters and are equippable by four of the five default infantry classes... (Use to be all five, as I originally had it in Beta to make my Infiltrator useful...)

3)
Eh, I'd start by upgrading my normal Jump-jets and Shields.
Drifters are a bit situational, and I hear Nanoweave doesn't give you all that much damage resistance for what it's worth...

As for C4 verse Medkits... that'd be a personal preference...
I've never really invested enough into C4 to find it all that useful, and would personally go with the Medkits due to their being a universal certification usable by all classes, but again that's just my preference.

1 LA is not ideal for meeting people head on - unless you are popping up in front of them with a shot gun.
Its mainly for rapid flanking and shooting them from above behind or beside.
Also dont dismiss the anti-vehicle abilities you get from C4.

2 die TR

3 My favorite set up is
Shotgun
C4
Regular Jets
Fast run armor

Am I the only one that loves the adrenaline upgrade for the LA class? Sure you have to give up shields or armor, but LA isn't about tanking any way. Being able to run faster means faster flanks, and getting to that right vantage point that much quicker. You can be on top of them before they know what hit them.

In reference to the weapons: Couldn't the use of high velocity ammo on the TRAC-5 S make it extremely potent in all situations due to increased damage and velocity?

Grab the Barrage shotgun (get extended mags for it), and cert the sprint ability and the jump jets. You have to learn to be sneaky but it is so effective, and more importantly, fun.

I use nano armor and more often than not find myself sitting at 3 red bars after a close encounter or grenade. That isn't much but at least I'm alive and there is a lot a Light Assault can still do with just a few red bars. Some of my best roof camping kill streaks have happened with just a sliver of health and every bar counts when you're frantically trying to drop your C4 on a Sunderer with everybody shooting at you.

Higby tweeted about buffing Flak Armor though to give infantry more survivabillity against rocket pods, zyphers, ect. Might switch to that, standing on top of shit is becoming more and more difficult and I'm tired of huddling in a corner inside a building with the normal people.

Still not exactly finding an answer to this last quesiton; can high velocity/soft point ammunition, paired with the numerous other upgrades available to the TRAC-5 S, make it an extremely potent weapon? On par with or maybe even more capable than the Lynx?

Don't really know man...

It can equipped all the same attachments besides the Advanced Laser Sight, but I really don't know how much of a difference they would make...

Re: TR Light Assault Guidance?

That's a bit disappointing. If you can't tell I'm trying to avoid spending 1000 certs on my gun tbh, after reading a review of TR carbines saying 1k wasnt worth it at all for the lynx. Seems as though the general consensus is that the Lynx is, in fact, the best carbine.
