It looks like both the turret and the ammo pack should fall into the ability slot. I never actually unlocked the turret (but I somehow have it) and I do have the first (free i think) level for the ammo pack, however, in the loadout screen I only have the turret as an option in the ability slot. Strangely, in the loadout screen, I have the ammo pack option in the utility slot which won't allow me to equip both the ammo pack and mines. Is this a glitch? Or (more likely) am I doing it wrong? Thanks

You get both the turret and the ammo pack free.
However if you want mines and an ammo pack instead of a turret: Replace the ammo pack with mines, then equip your turret (in your hand, not placed) and press B. Hey presto, another ammo pack! |

Turret needs replacing with something useful. I went for so long never using it, then decided I would use it just to block doorways or as distractions to enemy tanks. I would laugh and laugh and feel a little bad everytime I would see some noob jump on the turret I'd say ..."oh free sniper kill" then I tried it myself... yep both times i've actually manned a turret I was immediately killed by a sniper.
I want something useful in that slot... Oh, and I also hate in amp stations the driveways end up full of useless friendly turrets that give grief and oh look stop me in place when I pull out. |

Turrets do have their uses, but their use is highly situational, and you don't want to sit on a turret for too long; bound to attract the attention of a sniper (I just love one-shotting engis on turrets with the Bolt Driver).

Apparently if you put it on the receiving end of a jump pad, it will kill whoever hits it. I found this out the hard way taking one from Alatium Biodome to help attack the outpost it connected to. I was in a MAX suit and it was considered a suicide.

If you have a wall in your Back (or a save area), the turret can be very useful. It can shoot very fast, and if you manage it good it never overheat and you dont have to reload it. If you want to defend a small Area (for example, near to a Control Point), i think the turret is the first Choice.
For example, if you know Allatum Bio Lab, there it is useful to kill Players which jump up to the Aircraft Platform. Of course you can´t use the Turret in a open range! |
