Returning players:
Was it like riding a bicycle? Driving a Thunderer again sure was to me! Aside from some WoT (r-r-r, oh yeah, Q) moments and awkward "Ehr... I didn't want to pull my EMP grenade on you! D: " moments (), how have you faired? For me, infiltration went well as always, just without the Routerpad the options are a bit more limited to pure sabotage and resec steals. And jacking Prowlers as they drive by, of course. My squad of 3-5 picked up where we left off: mainly holding and resecuring bases against overwhelming odds, especially the PS2 players with us were amazed at how suited the bases were for defense. When we ran a training squad for newbees with a few CR5s, a lot of ooohs and aaahs regarding base design were heard. Our drop on Pamba (after holding off a squad or so of VS for half an hour) to resecure against a platoon of VS in the CC went well: they left the CC unguarded by all piling on the door my squadies were coming through. Of course... there's more than one way into a AMP CC. TR will remember our attempt at Bomazi (Bullseye hacking their ant), some VS might remember us being just a bit too late to take over a drained Gunuku. Particularly when we were playing with PS2 newbees against TRx, we naturally experienced a lot of problems, most couldn't even kill one of them or keep them down (most of them were Agile Gausses and Pwnishers vs rexo-medkit MCGs/advanced medics - really need to explain good load outs to my buddies and newbees!). TRx even survived when I started to lob plasma nades to weaken them significantly. Their teameffort and crossfires were very effective, to great frustration of some on NC side. ;p Only 1 vs 1 with Sweeper I got to kill a couple (or at least get them down to 30 health) So it seems TRx still has what it takes. Saw HippoDT and Hunter26 among others were doing quite decently at holding their own as well. So, how did you fair on your first days back? |

Doing fairly well. I had to remap some key bindings for my new mouse which helped a lot. Really love the large outdoor areas, bridges, the AMS, mines/spitfires, and inventory/load-out system! Oh and base layouts/hacking mechanics! I will for surely keep playing PS1 as long as there continues to be players.
EDIT: Oh, and EMP nades are the awesome! Last edited by Crator; 2013-05-22 at 08:49 AM. |

i had some problems with the zoom and secondary firemodes being so different in ps2 ;-)
and by now i am almost used to sonstantly spam the q key, which is a little stupid when going for airplanes with a sparrow max, but i had fun from the very first moment. there was low pop when i tried the game because it was totally not primetime, but i had some nice one on ones where i totally hammered the unsuspecting opponent. was fun to see someone land his reaver to go for my AA max on foot, and still smashing him with my sparrows. or the guy who landed his galaxy to repair. i was cloaked and had a load of grenades. i didn´t use plasma but normal nades. he didn´t know what hit him and entered the gal to escape. i just waited until he thought it was safe again and came out to repair the gal again. another nade, another kill. then i hacked the gal and deconstructed it. so yes, the basics are still there. like riding a bike. only some keybindings have to be relearned because planetside has so many different keys in use. i´m staying with planetside 1 for the next 6 months. playing ps2 is nothing but frustrating right now. i will try again after gu9 is on, but i don´t see ps2 keeping up with ps1 anytime soon.

Could I still do it. Erm no is the answer.
I'd forgotten so much. I struggled to invite someone to the outfit and eventually realised that I was logged in on the wrong char and didn't have permissions. Next I could not work out how to set a waypoint and had to be reminded. I fired of an OS at one time and that felt better than I expected and when I got a couple of kills it felt great. I agree with what some others have said. Although there are periods of downtime the action when it does occur can be more intense and makes the heart beat faster than it does in ps2 and there is certainly tension there when you're trying to hold a point. I'm not sure what the reason is, perhaps the slower ttk. |

I was still subbed to the game despite there being no pop. I'd occasionally log on just to mess around so it wasn't too difficult to get used to the controls again. I did have to get past the initial shock of seeing people in the game again though .

It was fun and I stayed on way too long lol. It drained my entire night.
I kept fumbling with medkits, weapon holstering and my implants which got me killed a few times. If I screwed up I just gave up and stood there and laughed my ass off. Other than that, aiming is aiming. I felt like I was sniping like a beast last night though. There were a few second shot kills where they were running away that made me smile, so satisfying. I really hope the game picks up again. |

i had lots of problems today, trying to go back to my old support position.
but the problem was not on my side. the others didn´t understand that they have to stop wobbling around if they want to get repaired or healed. most of the time they didn´t stop to do the ADAD. that sucked a bit and this aspect could use a fix. this is one of the very few things ps2 is doing a little better.

My keybinds were so different and odd than the default. It took me so long to figure out again. I still can't recall what I was using for a bail key and a couple times I got shot down since I re-bound it... then bound that key to something else... flew over a tower or base to drop on it and couldn't bail.
The riding a bike part, I'm relearning my keybinds as I'm in the middle of a fight and start instinctively mashing a button that isn't doing what I thought it should... *spark* oh yeah that was my medkit key... |

Apart from the controls, its like riding a bike. A little bit of rust to brush off with the controls and some other stuff (plasma grenades in my thumper, for example) but otherwise, I've been doing alright.
